Principle RF Systems Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems is developing advanced Electronic Support Measures (ESM) systems in support of the Electronic Warfare (EW) domain across a wide variety of platforms including technology for RF sensing, signal processing, identification, detection, tracking, and geo-location of emitters. Key technology advancements in ESM systems will improve air/sea vehicle situational awareness, survivability, and executing suppression and destruction of enemy air defenses.

The Electronic Systems' ESM Capability Group is looking for an experienced RF Systems Design engineer to work as part of a cross-functional team to design, integrate, debug, and test next generation ESM systems. The work will be conducted at BAE Systems Electronic Combat Solutions division and responsibilities will include individual technical contributions on a related range of programs, system development, test planning and execution in a field deployment environment.

Technical Responsibilities:
Leads small teams and is a primary contributor in multiple areas of technical expertise such as Analog/Digital Receivers design, High-Power Transmitter design, Antenna design, Phased Array concepts, Direction Finding concepts, Multi-Path effects, Modulation Techniques, Phase Noise / Timing Jitter, Modeling & Simulation, analysis, and hardware integration and test. Prepares documentation for designs and system architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures. Performs systems engineering functions such as developing and managing systems level requirements, developing operational systems concepts, performing system architecture trade studies, originating design concepts or performing systems level integration and test for highly complex systems. Verifies and validates aspects of system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements. Will be expected to independently formulate and implement complex system solutions.

Other Responsibilities:
Prepare and present technical presentations to peers, senior leaders, and Customers. Support business development efforts. Generate ideas and contribute to potential technical proposals

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Highly developed interpersonal skills with strong written and oral presentation skills for interfacing and coordinating with company personnel, internal and external customers, suppliers and other performers. Ability to work independently in an engineering development environment and lead small technical teams. Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability, along with follow-up and monitoring skills.

Technical Skills/Experience (at least two required): Digital/Analog/RF circuit design experience, Radar/Communication Receiver design experience, RF Path modeling & analysis, system link budget analysis, Hands-on RF hardware build, integration, test, and debug experience of RF circuits and assemblies, Modeling and Simulation of RF systems, subsystems, and components, Microwave theory and technology.

Experience operating electronics and RF test and measurement equipment (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.) Ability to work in an Engineering Laboratory environment.

Understands advanced radar operation, Radar Warning Receivers (RWR), system resource management, advanced antenna technologies (antenna patterns, polarization, bandwidth, beamwidth etc.), atmospheric propagation of RF signals.

Strong computer skills for modeling, simulation, analysis, and testing as well as preparing appropriate reports and technical documents: MATLAB, Simulink, Python, ADS, Genesys, Microwave Office, HFSS, LabVIEW, SysML, MagicDraw, MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint/Project/Visio, etc.

Preferred Skills and Education

Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 6 years related work experience. PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, GPA of 3.0 or higher and 4 years related work experience.

Technical Leader: 2 years of experience as a technical leader.

Active (or active in the past two years) United States security clearance, Top Secret
