Principal Systems Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems is developing advanced Electronic Support Measures (ESM) systems in support of the Electronic Warfare (EW) domain across a wide variety of platforms including technology for RF sensing, signal processing, identification, detection, tracking, direction finding, and geo-location of emitters. Key technology advancements in ESM systems will improve air/sea vehicle situational awareness, survivability, and executing suppression and destruction of enemy air defenses.

The Electronic Systems' ESM Capability Group is looking for an experienced engineer to work as part of a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team to design, integrate, test, next generation ESM systems. The work will be conducted at BAE Systems Electronic Combat Solutions division and responsibilities will include individual technical contribution on a related range of programs, system development, test planning and execution in a field deployment environment.

Technical Responsibilities:

Team contributor in an area such as RF Systems, Analog/Digital Receiver Architecture, Digital Signal Processing, Detection Theory, Tracking and Estimation, Mechanical Systems, and Environmental/Functional Testing. Prepares documentation for system designs and architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures. P erforms systems engineering functions such as developing and managing systems level requirements, developing operational systems concepts, performing system architecture trade studies, originating design concepts or performing systems level integration and test for highly complex systems. Verifies and validates aspects of system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements.

Other Responsibilities:
Prepare and present technical presentations to peers, senior leaders, and Customers. Support business development efforts. Generate ideas for potential proposals. Contributor to new proposals.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Highly developed interpersonal skills for interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, internal and external customers, suppliers and other performers.

Technical Skills/Experiences (at least two required): Hardware development, modeling and simulation development, laboratory and field testing, digital signal processing, open systems architecture, RF path modeling & analysis, system link budget analysis, real-time operating systems, model-based engineering.

Understands the fundamentals of radar systems, Radar Warning Receivers (RWR), system resource management, antennas (including phased arrays), atmospheric propagation of RF signals.

Strong computer skills for modeling, simulation, and analysis as well as preparing appropriate reports and technical documents: MATLAB, Simulink, Python, ADS, SysML, MagicDraw, SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, COLDPLATE, MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint/Project/Visio etc.

Preferred Skills and Education

Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline and 3 years of experience or a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline and a Master Degree in Systems Engineering and 3 years of experience.

Experience leading small technical teams.
