The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will ensure the effective application, integration and measurement of manufacturing techniques and resources that successfully accomplish manufacturing processes/activities in support of quality, cost and schedule objectives. Develop and implement cost effective manufacturing methods, testing and flow of material. Participate as a member of an integrated product team for existing products and new product introduction. Utilizes experience in semiconductor assembly and test manufacturing, and performs as subject matter expert in relevant manufacturing processes. Participates in determining and providing an optimum plan of operation, equipment, space requirements, and related facilities for assigned areas. Supports both high volume manufacturing along side of low volume, highly technical and complex electronic assemblies, prototype and process development. Acts as liaison between Manufacturing, Engineering and suppliers. Supports the development of new methods, processes, and equipment and applies them to the manufacturing operation. May provide technical support to, and assist in determining the technical and manufacturing capability of vendors. Manages resources and provides status information and feedback to internal customers and managers.
PRIMARY DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop new manufacturing processes / tooling, resolve manufacturing constraints including development of controls to ensure accurate and consistent measurement of assembly and test performance
- Review/approves engineering drawings/design changes for producibility and coordinates first article assembly from release through delivery
- Develops complex work instructions, software, and procedures in support of manufacturing processes
- Develops training programs and provides manufacturing personnel with training and technical guidance
- Performs complex methods (and cost) analysis and conducts process measurements
- Assist in the resolution of supply chain issues impacting manufacturing as well as supplier feedback, selection and technical assistance
- Represents manufacturing at design reviews, Configuration Control Board (CCB), make versus buy meetings, and Material Review Board (MRB) meetings
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience
Minimum of 10 years experience as Manufacturing or Process Engineer in electronics manufacturing, including assembly and test.
Required Skills
- Solid background in quality systems and electronics assembly and test processes
- Proven record of analyzing manufacturing / support processes and driving continuous improvement. This position is the subject matter expert for manufacturing processes that include; wafer dicing, die attach, wire bonding, epoxy bonding, ultrasonic welding, and complex camera assembly and test processes.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, develop targets and action plans and lead an organization to achieve results
- Excels at yield analysis, failure analysis (field and in process) leading to root cause, and comes up with corrective actions
- Proficient in use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, yield analysis and tracking tools, and other manufacturing support systems
- Proficient in use of standard Microsoft Office products in producing data-driven reports
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively monitor operations with excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
- Results driven, analytical, self motivated, detail oriented with ability to logically identify alternate solutions or approaches to complex problems
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience in electronics/semiconductor environment with hands-on experience CMOS and CCD imagers and cameras a plus
- Medical or Dental product experience a plus
- Experience in Six Sigma, SPC, Continuous Improvement / Lean Methodologies a plus
- Proficient in use of Minitab
- Experience troubleshooting PC Boards issues to component level and/or selection of assembly epoxies a plus
