Optical Engineering Assistant 2nd Shift

Job Description

Supporting our Second Shift Electo-optical technicians with experience in the support of laser hardware test and assembly in engineering environments. Will construct, adapt and modify assemblies, systems and sub-systems of electro-optical, diode pumped Lasers and troubleshoot and correct malfunctions with minimal supervision or guidance. They will perform and document various tests or experiments of moderate complexity requiring minor modifications in test set-ups or procedures. They will create and run acceptance tests using associated test equipment to customer specifications and perform routine analysis of data to check and verify applicability, practicality and accuracy. They will perform alignment of optical hardware to meet customer specifications. They must be able to ensure accuracy of paperwork to government standards.

Required Skills and Education

Candidates should have experience working with infrared solid-state and/or fiber lasers, including working with laser diodes, opto-mechanical hardware, and laser crystals. Experience working with laser control equipment such as power supplies, temperature controllers and pulse generators. Also, need experience with test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power meters, spectrometers, auto collimators, imaging cameras and beam analyzers. Experience with handling and cleaning sensitive optical elements, such as mirrors and crystals is required.

Preferred Skills and Education

Experience with aligning free-space laser resonators, working with Q-switched or pulsed infrared lasers, and splicing fiber optics is highly desired. Experience with the assembly and alignment of military optical systems is desired. An Associate's Degree or equivalent experience is required.
