Operational Excellence Manager

Job Description
BAE Systems' Strategic Systems Program contract is seeking a leader in Operational Excellence to instill a culture of continuous improvement, as well reinvigorate Project Management rigor. The primary function of this position is to help establish business management consistency and thoroughness across all Program Areas. This role has supervisory duties, allowing the Ops Excellence Manager to lead the team who manage business functions, namely: Risk Management, Deliverable Tracking, Data Management, Documentation Management, Quality, and Continuous Improvement. The Manager of Operational Excellence will reside within the Program Management Office (PMO), reporting to the PMO Manager. Key Expectations of the Role:

  • Cultivate a high-performance Operational Excellence team, serving as trusted advisors to the program
  • Measure and improve program performance
  • Identify Risks and Continuous Improvements, support the performance of qualitative and quantitative assessments, monitor, and control (report) through closure
  • Streamline current business practices and tools in order to gain efficiency and quality
  • Manage Ops Excellence planning efforts, including using resource-loaded schedules to prioritize projects with the available workforce
  • Ensure contract deliveries are made with expected or above level of quality
  • Perform supervisory duties, including team-building
  • Support strategic initiatives
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
Experience supporting the successful execution of contracts, including the development of reports, briefings, and work instructions
Strong team-building skills
Eligible for DoD security clearance
7+ yrs of related business operations/operations excellence experience, including supervisor responsibilities of a team of 5 or more
Bachelors in Business Operations, Industrial or Process Engineering, or similar field
Green Belt (or higher-level certification) in Lean/Six Sigma and leader of Kaizen
Effective communication across large (250+ person) organizations
Strong attention to detail
Relentlessly resourceful and able to drive autonomously
High EQ and capable of building strong relationships inside and outside the organization
Proficient in excel, word, and powerpoint
An interest in defense and supportive of our nuclear deterrent mission
PMP Certification

Preferred Skills and Education

10 or more years of SSP Experience
Strong customer interface experience
Active DoD Secret security clearance
Experience delivering training to 100+ employees
Experience developing corporate/high-level presentations
Experience with MS Power BI and JIRA - if limited exposure, the ability to learn systems and tools quickly
