Nuclear Safety Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems has an immediate need for a highly qualified Nuclear Safety Engineer to support U.S Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Office, and the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS) programs involving weapon system integration in support of Weapon System and Program Safety. The Nuclear Safety Engineer will report directly to the Safety Program Area Manager for Special Projects on the SP201 Systems Integration contract.

To be successful, the candidate must be skilled in the business processes that enable effective program structuring and execution, in the leadership behaviors that enable effective planning, monitoring, and control, and in customer relationship building.

The ability to communicate, coordinate, collaborate, and work in a visible and proactive manner is an imperative aspect of the role, and will be evaluated equally alongside specific, applied experiences. The ideal candidate will be highly engaging, team-oriented, customer-focused, and able to respond rapidly to a dynamic programmatic environment.

Key roles and responsibilities include: 1) developing a close and trusted relationship with customers at all levels enabling enhancement of our service delivery to those customers; 2) serving as one of the primary program interfaces between customers and the BAE Systems program organization, facilitating a successful partnership 3) synthesizing customer future needs and opportunities into actionable and measurable plans; 4) informing internal business and program leaders regarding contract management risks and opportunities, ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach to service delivery across the program; and 5) contributing to workforce development initiatives, ensuring that organizational skills and competencies remain relevant to projected requirements.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
Minimum education and years of related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor's Degree in applicable field and at least 6 years related/relevant work experience. Significant experience within the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Office, and the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS).

Security clearance requirement: Must have an active Secret security clearance and able/eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

Preferred Skills and Education
Highly desired, but not required:

  • Ability to engage at a high level with SSP Technical Branches and Leadership
  • Ability to communicate issues and alternatives clearly
  • Knowledge in audit processes and the ability to accomplish independent audit functions
  • Demonstrated performance as a self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a team environment and meet schedule requirements
