Night Shift Controls Systems Technician

BAE Systems, one of the world’s leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Controls Systems Technician at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant to work 12-hour night shifts.

The successful candidate will possess considerable depth of experience in troubleshooting and repairing a variety of industrial production/plant utility equipment, electrical/pneumatic controls and instrumentation in a continuous production environment. Primary responsibilities include: immediate corrective maintenance of production equipment, blenders, mills, mixers, dryers, conveyors, pumps, motors, VFD’s, PLC’s, instrumentation, secondary power distribution, and elevators. Experience working in chemical industry preferred. Associates degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Technology and/or certified Journeyman Electrician desired.

Job responsibilities to be learned through on-the-job training (OJT) on day/night shifts with current Shift Electricians and Control Systems Technicians. This job is exclusively nights shifts partnered with rotating Shift Electricians.

o Promptly respond to radio calls requesting assistance.

o Testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical/pneumatic controls on utility and process equipment.

o Calibration of instrumentation when required for corrective maintenance.

o Assist with repairs: elevators, switchgear, high current breakers, and high voltage pumps.

o Document corrective maintenance in electronic logbook.

o Accurately record/report job time for KRONOS system.

o Operate fork lift, hand tools, and hydraulic tools.

o Assist fellow Shift Maintenance-Mechanic / Electrician personnel.

o Perform complicated duties or assignments involving a fairly comprehensive knowledge of equipment/materials and process to meet customer, quality, and performance standards.

o Maintain a working knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA, and OSHA Safety Procedures.

o Communicate frequently and effectively with other TEAM members and departments.

o Adhere to all Plant Protection Standards, PPE requirements, Company Policies, and Guidelines.

o Other duties as determined by TEAM Leader or Department Manager. Required Skills and Education o High School Diploma / GED

o 5 years minimum experience in electrical & instrument maintenance to include troubleshooting of production and/or utility equipment controls and instrumentation.

o Ability to work 12-hr night shifts. 7 night shifts every 2 weeks.

o Self-motivated; able to work independently with minimal work direction.

o Strong aptitude to learn troubleshooting and repair of various instrument types and technologies.

o Ability to use electrical schematics, single lines, P&ID’s, shop mathematics, handbook formulas, precision measuring instruments, computers, calibrators, process meters, communicators, and maintenance software programs.

o Willing to support plant operations in afterhours emergency situations. Preferred Skills and Education o Experience in a 24-hour production environment preferred.

o Experience with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley controls systems a plus.

o Experience working in a chemical and/or hazardous areas a plus.
