Network Technician

Supports the Department of Defense (DoD) global communications networks by monitoring and correcting issues and problems. Helps manage the day-to-day operation of DoD enterprise services such as Classified and Unclassified Internet Protocol (IP) based networks, Enterprise Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU) Voice, Voice over Secure IP (VoSIP), as well as the Defense Switched Network (DSN) and Defense Red Switched Network (DRSN). Identifies and recommends solutions for continuous operation of network as capacity needs change. Makes corrections to network configurations to ensure efficient operation. Monitors and documents network and traffic analysis.

  • Will be “mission essential” and must be able to support rotating 8, 10, or 12hr shifts based upon requirements and resources available
  • Support complex network features and configurations, provide ongoing troubleshooting, recover from network outages and/or quality performance problems
  • Respond, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents
  • Monitor and report network alarms, service degradation, or loss of service
  • Must maintain a customer-centric focus to ensure quality customer service and support is the top priority

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education – DoD 8570 IAT- level II baseline certification. This is a GSEC, Security+(CE), SSCP, CCNA-Security, CISA, GCIH, GCED, CISSP (or Associate), or CASP certification

  • Experience with one or more of the following: alarm surveillance, fault management, configuration management, LAN maintenance, performance management, and/or firewall management
  • Expertise in one or more of the following: IP routing/switching, TDM switching; Optical Devices; SONET; DWDM; Digital Cross Connects; Crypto; SATCOM, Network appliances (CSU, DSU, etc.), and/or other related telecommunications technology
  • Expert understanding of network topologies, both transport and IP
  • Ability to work in a team focused, dynamic environment
  • Requires expertise in one or more of the following devices/vendors: Cisco, Avaya, Ciena, Nortel, ACME Packet, Oracle, Palo Alto, and/or Juniper
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting, configuration, and restoration of services across multiple platforms
  • Requires experience in one or more of the following Crypto devices: KG-340, KG-175A/D, KIV-7, KIV-19
  • Familiarity with Remedy to log/monitor the issues or problems Preferred Skills and Education – ITIL V3 foundation Certification
