Network Security Specialist

Job Description

The selected candidate will provide onsite support to the United States Computer Emergency Readiness program (US-CERT) responsible for analyzing and reducing cyber threats and vulnerabilities, disseminating cyber threat warning information, and coordinating incident response activities. US CERT provides advanced network and digital media analysis expertise and defends against malicious activity targeting networks within the United States and abroad.

The responsibilities of the selected Network Security Specialist candidate may include the following: Exam and combat malicious software, suspicious network activities, and non-authorized presence in the network to analyze the nature of the threat, and secure and monitor firewall configurations. The Network Security Specialist needs to understand the subject's attack capabilities, propagation characteristics, and define signatures for detecting malware presence; Conduct risk assessment and provide recommendations for enhanced security architecture and infrastructure for a large
enterprise security operation; Manage enterprise security appliances (IDS/IPS) devices and develop custom signature rules; Develop and enhance system security documentation including rules of behavior, continuity of operations (COOP) and disaster recovery (DR), interconnection agreements, and incident response plans in accordance with customer plans and guidelines; Conduct and evaluate COOP and DR exercises and training; Develop and manage required system compliance reports and information requests; Participate in system Certification and Accreditation and Federal
Information Security Management Act processes at the Department/Federal level.

Candidate preference to shift will be considered. Shifts are defined as follows:

Shift 1: Mon - Fri, 6:00AM - 2:30PM
Shift 2: Mon - Fri, 2:00PM - 10:30PM
Shift 3: Mon - Fri, 10:00PM - 6:30AM
Shift 4: Sat and Sun, 6:00AM - 6:30PM, plus two (2) eight-hour weekday shifts
Shift 5: Sat 6:00PM - Sun 6:30AM and Sun 6:00 PM - Mon 6:30 AM, plus two (2) eight-hour weekday shifts

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Bachelor's Degree required for positions above entry level.

Demonstrated Experience in Network Administration and Network Security

Hardware experience with Routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection systems

Software experience with Network management software, firewall rule management, anti-virus software .

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be able to work independently and with a group Possess excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills and Education

Industry certifications such as MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, ISC, CAP, CISSP, CCISM, ISC ISSMP, TIA, SANs GIAC, PMP.

Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
