Network Controller / Operator

Job Description
Supports the Department of Defense (DoD) global communications networks by monitoring telecommunication systems, networks, and services (legacy and current offerings). This includes Classified and Unclassified Internet Protocol (IP) based networks, Enterprise Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Voice over Secure IP (VoSIP), as well as the Defense Switched Network (DSN) and Defense Red Switched Network (DRSN). Identifies and recommends solutions for continuous operation of network as capacity needs change. Makes corrections to network configurations to ensure efficient operation. Monitors and documents network and traffic analysis.
- Will be "mission essential" and must be able to support 12, 10, or 8 hour shifts based upon requirements and resources available
- Support complex network features and configurations, provide ongoing troubleshooting, recover from network outages and/or quality performance problems
- Respond, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents
- Monitor and report network alarms, service degradation, or loss of service
- Must maintain a customer-centric focus to ensure quality customer service and support is the top priority

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a High School Diploma and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
- Experience with one or more of the following: alarm surveillance, fault management, configuration management, LAN maintenance, performance management, and/or firewall management
- Expertise in one or more of the following: IP routing/switching, TDM switching; Optical Devices; SONET; DWDM; Digital Cross Connects; Crypto; SATCOM, Network appliances (CSU, DSU, etc.), and/or other related telecommunications technology
- Expert understanding of network topologies, both transport and IP
- Ability to work in a team focused, dynamic environment
- Requires expertise in one or more of the following devices/vendors: Cisco, Avaya, Ciena, Nortel, ACME Packet, Oracle, Palo Alto, and/or Juniper
- Ability to perform troubleshooting, configuration, and restoration of services across multiple platforms
- Hold, or is eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Must hold and maintain at least one of the following DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certifications:
-- Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Security+ (with Continuing Education (CE))
-- CompTIA Advance Security Practitioner (CASP) (CE)
-- Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)
-- GAIC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
-- GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH)
-- GIAC Certified Enterprise Defender (GCED)
-- International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium ((ISC)2) System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
-- (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) (or Associate)
-- Cisco Certified Network Associate-Security (CCNA-Security)
-- Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

Preferred Skills and Education
- ITIL foundation Certification
- Cisco, Juniper, or other similar IT certification
- Experience in one or more of the following Crypto devices: KG-340, KG-175A/D, KIV-7, KIV-19
- Familiarity with GTMS Remedy to log/monitor the issues or problems by the means of incident management tickets
- Knowledge and/or experience with DISA Circulars (DISAC) to include 310-70-1, Methods and Procedures Global Information Grid (GIG) Technical Control; DISAC 300-175-9, Global Information Grid (GIG) Operating Maintenance Electrical Performance Standards; and DISAC 310-130-4, Defense User's Guide To The Telecommunications Service Priority (TSP) System.
