Navigation Engineer

BAE P&S Weapon Systems is seeking a Navigation Research Engineer to provide technical leadership of navigation research and development programs for military applications. This individual will join a highly capable technical team, work in close collaboration with Government R&D organizations to develop advanced navigation technologies, and support transition of those technologies to production. This individual’s focus area will be the use of IMU and RF signals, including GNSS (GPS, others), radar aiding, and other RF approaches, in support of maintaining accurate, reliable positioning, navigation, and timing information in contested environments.

Responsibilities include: conceptual development for RF systems, design and implementation of tracking / filtering algorithms; specification and oversight of hardware / firmware / software implementations; system test and verification; design and oversight of flight demonstrations; presentation to internal and external groups; supporting proposal activities; representing BAE at technical conferences and working groups.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Responsibilities for Navigation Systems including signal processing, development of coupled GPS/IMU inertial navigation systems, and analysis of total system product. Responsible for algorithm development, modeling, system simulation, implementation and verification for embedded Navigation systems with emphasis on military GPS receivers. The successful applicant shall have a demonstrated track record of innovation and accomplishment in positioning, navigation, estimation, and timing with deep knowledge of RF systems. We are seeking an engineer to provide GPS/IMU Navigation expertise to sustain, extend and grow new business.

Experience in GNSS receiver design and implementation is highly desirable.

MS in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related subject with 8+ years of directly related experience or PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related subject with 6+ years of directly related experience.

Requires a strong math background with a desired knowledge of covariance analysis, digital/analog signal processing, and external navigation sensors.

Knowledge of principles of navigation, including inertial navigation, aided navigation, and Kalman filtering, is highly desirable.

Demonstrated experience in GNSS receiver design and implementation.

The ability to obtain a security clearance.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Self-motivated, capable of working independently. Preferred Skills and Education Recent technical experience relative to integrated GEU systems using GPS and IMU navigation subsystems blended via Kalman filter techniques

Knowledge of advanced Kalman filtering including extended Kalman filters. Familiarity with recent approaches to improve performance and stability of EKFs.

Ability to development of processor requirements for discrete filter implementations

Understanding of IMU / seeker integration issues desired

Familiarity with MEMS IMU technology

Knowledge of advanced navigation techniques, including upfinding, spinning vehicle navigation, and GNSS anti-jamming.

Development experience for covariance analysis techniques to predict and evaluate navigation filtering performance and error propagation.

Broad experience in Guidance, Navigation and Control engineering, including academic and/or professional experience in system modeling and analysis, hardware design, or integration, test and verification

Experience with related RF systems (e.g. comms, electronic warfare)

Experience working Government-funded R&D programs Proficiency with C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, VHDL
