BAE Systems is seeking an experienced factory manager to oversee the DASALS (Distributed Aperture Semi-Active Laser Seeker) factory assembly, inspection, and test team that builds and delivers prime units for the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS) program along with some new development production (P126, L3, E-Stack Re-design, and others). The area consists of a 24/7 - 5 day a week operation with a planned future weekend shift with sub-assembly build and final assembly integration and environmental test and acceptance test areas. The individual should have previous experience working in an environment for complex Laser and/or Seeker Build within a complex technical environment. The unique manufacturing process requires complex manual assembly with custom optical measurement & alignment procedures, environmental test, functional test, and visual mechanical inspections. The manager will be responsible for all quality, cost, and delivery metrics for this medium sized factory team of 30 employees with 1 supervisor. The leader must work with the associated technical support team and supply chain team in driving resolution to all build issues in a complex optical/mechanical production environment within the facility. The factory will be doubling its yearly rate from approximately 5,000 year to 10,000 year over the next year. This new leader will be responsible for ramping to rate on this legacy program for BAE Systems.

Primary responsibilities are shown below:

Responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing, quality, cost, and delivery of highly complex APKWS assets. Directs the production and test of manufacturing including prioritization of manufacturing engineering and supply chain support. Obtains trained personnel and required supervisors necessary for the fabrication, assembly, test, and design engineering support matrix functions required to support the build of the product. Ensures that an acceptable product is delivered to the customer meeting their requirements. Develops and ensures the implementation of plans designed to achieve production schedules.

Establishes and oversees production expense budgets so that total cost objectives are achieved. Controls indirect labor, indirect labor by direct labor and overhead accounts to ensure that profit goals are achieved and a competitive cost structure is maintained.

Develops and maintains a continuous improvement program to ensure that assembly and test labor functions are competitive meeting business and program cost requirements. Utilize all the tools available to drive a Zero Defect culture throughout the factory (Root Cause Corrective Action, Corrective Action Review Board, APQP, PFMEA, Kaizen Events and Projects for Green and Black Belts). Ensures that a cross-trained work force is in place to support program requirements. Prepares and discusses performance appraisals; interviews job applicants and hires. Plans, interprets, and implements Company policies and standards to ensure 100% compliance to the requirements for Security, ESH, ISO, etc.
