Mechanical Piping Designer

BAE Systems is hiring a Mechanical Piping Designer at HSAAP. This is a full-time, direct-hire, salaried position working on design of large capital projects for a chemical manufacturing facility - new construction and retrofit. As a Mechanical Piping Designer, you will:

o Develop piping designs utilizing SmartPlant 3D and AutoCAD Plant 3D CAD software

o Assist project team in developing bids, proposals, scopes of work, estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, design drawings, and other project documentation

o Perform field surveying of existing piping systems for incorporation into design

o Generate equipment arrangements and piping routing from concept flow diagrams, P&IDs, and process specifications

o Maintain project files and documentation

o Certify accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility

o Develop project bills of material

o Develop utility and process piping isometrics, equipment arrangements, and piping supports from piping layout drawings

o Write Work Order and Material Purchase Requests

o Coordinate work with suppliers, subcontractors, fabrication, maintenance and/or construction firms

o Walk-down systems per P&ID's and makes any as-built changes to drawings


Design utility and process piping systems including associated pumps, valves, and instrumentation. Develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develop basic data and make preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigate pertinent design factors. Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

A. Physical Tasks

Exerts limited physical energy, must be able to climb stairs and carry loads up to 50 pounds

B. Working Conditions

Normal office and production environments. Must be able to wear respirator and other PPE. May work extended hours or weekends. May travel overnight or on weekends.
