Mechanical Engineer I - Nuclear Surety

BAE Systems is looking for a qualified junior engineering professional to join our team for an exciting opportunity supporting sustainment efforts for the Minuteman–III (MM-III) Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system. The MM-III is a 1970s-era weapon system and is scheduled to be retained as the United States military’s prompt, global strike deterrent system until at least 2030. To maintain the system, a number of issues associated with obsolescence of the system will be addressed. The junior engineer will augment organic resources by providing engineering expertise support to the government customer in maintaining their nuclear surety program for the MM-III weapon system in accordance with requirements detailed in Department of Defense, United States Strategic Command, and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions.

The specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Performing engineering work which requires a highly diversified application of engineering principles, theories, concepts and precedents to m aintain the nuclear certification program and preserve the nuclear certification of the MM-III Reviewing and providing engineering assessments on Nuclear Certification Impact Statements (NCIS); Certification Requirement Plans (CRP); Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports (NSAR); Nuclear Surety Evaluation Reports (NSER); Nuclear Surety Briefings, Point Papers, and White Papers; Safety & Nuclear Surety Technical Memoranda; source data for ICBM Technical Orders; and changes to the Master Nuclear Certification List (MNCL), Nuclear Certification Plans (NCP), Engineering Evaluation Reports (EER), and Software Certification Plans (SCP) Providing nuclear surety support and monitoring for compliance with applicable 91-series USAF Instructions Assisting in preparation/review of proposals, presentations, risks, technical order (TO) changes, safety review briefings, program protection plans and government engineering board briefings Assisting in the completion of assigned action items from ICBM safety mishap investigations Developing working group meeting agendas, preparing and consolidating briefing materials, providing meeting minutes to participants, and drafting answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations. Reviewing design requirements documentation to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements This position is located at or near Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Required education:

BS/MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics or 10 years directly related MMIII ICBM experience.

Able to work with minimal supervision, demonstrate initiative, and organize tasks; strong communications skills (oral and written); entry level experience is okay. Preferred Skills and Education Current U.S. Government security clearance highly desired (but not required); Experience with ICBM or other DoD weapon systems, nuclear surety requirements, or military technology and technical data desired (but not required).
