MBSE Solution Architect

Job Description

BAE Systems is currently seeking a Solution Architect that will serve as the competency lead for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The MBSE Solution Architect will focus on planning and leading the successful implementation of MBSE transitions, solutions, and best practices. The systems architect must be capable of leading MBSE efforts that require collaboration and coordination with customers, systems engineers, and partner contractors in support of successful program execution. Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities (Other duties as assigned)

  • Serve as the technical authority for MBSE/MBE planning and implementation of products that support the Weapon System (customer) Chief Engineers' organization for existing and future Weapon System developments
  • Coordinate with Program leadership, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads, Program Management, and Functional leadership to ensure the integrity and successful execution of MBSE initiatives
    • Act as an advisor to management and customers on MBSE best practices
    • Collaborate with the program leadership team (functional engineering, program office, supply chain management, contracts, and business management) to deploy processes and to identify resources required for effective MBSE implementation.
    • Implement metrics and data-driven decision making to track and improve MBSE efficiency and effectiveness
    • Control and optimize the product and process over its life-cycle by continuing to develop or further enhance the MBSE architectural framework
  • Ensure that the decisions on technical approaches are aligned with the established MBSE plan to achieve optimal technical, schedule, and financial performance
  • Develop technology roadmaps and identify strategic investments in next-generation technologies and methodologies for MBSE/MBE
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Experience thinking strategically and communicating effectively at the most senior levels of government (customer) and program management (company) to articulate and c hampion MBSE as a proven solution for schedule optimization, affordability, and more predictable technical performance and to communicate the value and benefit of BAE Systems MBSE/MBE solutions
  • Demonstrated track record of providing strong competent technical leadership on multiple MBSE/MBE based projects
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading MBSE-based technical solution development including CONOPS, enterprise/system architecture (using leading systems engineering methodologies including architecture frameworks, SysML or UML), functional simulation, integration, and test for design, support, maintenance, and sustainment of Weapons Systems
  • Experience collaborating across customer and contractor organizations, participating in industry forums and conferences, writing and presenting technical papers.
  • Knowledge of architecture, design, and system engineering of mission critical weapon systems and enterprise systems
    • Knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, industrial engineering, and supply chain systems
    • Knowledge of system development methodologies including requirement engineering, configuration management, technical baseline management, cost estimating and analysis, and decision support methodologies
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies, including scope, cost and schedule, and resource management
  • Expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., DoDAF, Zachman)
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)
  • In-depth technical expertise in MBSE techniques; requirements management, interface control and verification; trade studies and analysis of alternatives;
  • Proven track record as a successful introduction/implementation of MBSE practices to new and ongoing programs
