Job Description
BAE Systems seeks a Chief Engineer to join its LEO Smallsat Systems Engineering team in Huntsville, AL.

Responsible for System Engineering and Integration of the BAE Systems Low Earth Orbit Systems of Systems program development and delivery. Lead customer interface for technical issues and technical presentations. Map customer specifications to system design requirements. Identify subsystem and system performance and identify risks, gaps and opportunities. Understand and addresses cost, schedule and performance impacts and provide trade-off summaries for management personnel. Provide technical support in developing and maintaining analysis to predict overall system performance, error margins and performance budgets, performance modeling, and simulation and analysis.

The work includes architecture development and integration, satellite constellation system design, software and hardware system design, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test and documentation, design analyses and trade studies, payload/bus/launcher M&S/integration/test, configuring in-house test set ups, Hardware In the Loop (HWIL) testing, satellite HWIL pre-flight qualification testing (day in the life), and development of capability for on-orbit operations and anomaly resolution. Our Chief Engineer leads and coordinates the activities of key technical personnel and other employees as required including subcontractor teammates. Works across a broad range of disciplines to structure undefined problems, identify key technical issues and define alternative approaches and resolutions. Works in difficult areas requiring collaboration, creativity and ingenuity in identifying engineering solutions. Mentors program junior systems engineers and review their work for quality. Supports proposal development for satellite systems, launch and orbit operations.

Required Skills and Education

Experience in space systems design, architecture definition, systems architecture, systems engineering, and functional analysis.
Experience in requirements development, trade studies, and requirements/interface definitions.
Experience with end-to-end satellite and space systems architecture development.
Experience with developing satellite bus and payload subsystem-level requirements and interface definitions.

Experience with Model Based Engineering tools and languages such as Enterprise Architecture, Cameo, MagicDraw, and UML/SysML.

Conduct payload/bus/launcher design trades, including potential source identification/selection.

Perform analysis and decompose system level performance requirements to verifiable allocated subsystems/components requirement.

Excellent communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments.

Works independently to formulate and execute project plans, complete and track assigned tasks.

Demonstrated leadership capability including ability to lead and influence technical, management, and customer community.
Adept at analyzing and resolving issues in a variety of complex situations or, as appropriate, developing and collaborating on recommendations for resolution of complex problems on short timelines.

Preferred Skills and Education

Master's degree or higher in either Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Engineering.
