Job Description
BAE Systems seeks a Lead Engineer for its HALE/LEO Smallsat Systems Engineering team in Huntsville, AL.
Responsible for System Engineering and Integration of the BAE Systems High Altitude Long Endurance and Low Earth Orbit Systems of Systems program development and delivery. Technical lead for SE&I efforts including Lead Systems Integration teams. Architect and deploy MBSE solution sets. Map customer specifications to system design requirements. Identify subsystem and system performance and identify risks, gaps and opportunities. Understand and address cost, schedule and performance impacts and provide trade-off summaries for management personnel. Provide technical support in developing and maintaining analysis to predict overall system performance, error margins and performance budgets, performance modeling, and simulation and analysis.
The work includes architecture development and integration, HALE/satellite constellation system design, systems engineering, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test and documentation, design analyses and trade studies, payload/bus/launcher M&S/integration/test, configuring in-house test set ups, Hardware In the Loop (HWIL) testing, satellite HWIL pre-flight qualification testing (day in the life), and development of capability for on-orbit operations and anomaly resolution. Uses Model Based Systems Engineering approaches, methods, and techniques.
Our Lead Systems Engineer directs and coordinates the activities of key technical personnel and other employees as required including subcontractor teammates. Works across a broad range of disciplines to structure undefined problems, identify key technical issues and define alternative approaches and resolutions. Works in difficult areas requiring collaboration, creativity and ingenuity in identifying engineering solutions. Mentors program junior systems engineers and reviews their work for quality. Supports proposal development for HALE and satellite systems, launch and orbit operations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience in architecture definition, enterprise systems, systems architecture, systems engineering, and functional analysis.
Experience with Model Based Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering for SE&I. Highly developed understanding of MBSE for lifecycle beginning-to-end System of Systems Engineering and Integration.
Experience with information systems and cybersecurity.
Excellent communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments.
Works independently to formulate and execute project plans, complete and track assigned tasks.
Demonstrated leadership capability including ability to lead and influence technical, management, and customer community.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Master's degree or higher in either Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Information Systems.
