Lead Structural Analyst - Munitions

Job Description
This position involves the leadership of technical activities and technical staff. Specifically, the role involves working directly within technology development teams to define solution paths to complex challenges involving structural mechanics/dynamics. Activities involve the thermal and fluid analyses supporting design and testing of precision guide munitions systems. As a member of a functional group deployed within the organizational matrix, the candidate will define tasks for group members specialized in the analyses of structural phenomena. The task types may range from calculations based on first principles to the use of detailed 3D models to represent forces, stresses, and material strains. Support for the development activities will also include test planning, execution, and data analysis activities. The candidate will be responsible for identifying technical problems, defining paths forward to solve those problems, developing and executing plans that involve the work of others, and reporting the results of those efforts to the leaders of the interdisciplinary development teams.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
Ability to identify technical challenges and solution paths
Ability to define the proper assessment approach to solve complex physical problems using the following tools and knowledge
• FEA/FEM processes and tools applied to designs utilizing standard and composite materials
• Material properties and limits
• Physics-based models
• Empirical models
• Test planning, execution, and data analysis
Demonstrated ability to managing people and delegate tasks
10 years experience in engineering sciences
5 years experience in technical leadership of others
Experience working in product and/or technology development teams
Experience reporting results across an organization and upward to decision makers
Decomposing technical requirements into product specifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or physics

Preferred Skills and Education
Ability to develop physical models for own use using tools such as finite elements and computer languages such as Matlab
Ability to analyze thermal- and fluids-related data gathered during field tests using a range of toolsets (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, Excel, ...)
Working knowledge of project planning tools such as MS Project
Experience with weapon systems development
Familiarity with the defense acquisition process
Familiarity with common FEM/FEA tools such as Abaqus and ANSYS
Experience working with teammates outside own organization/company
Master's or PhD in engineering sciences
Training in project leadership and management
