Lead Electrical Engineer, Missile

Job Description

BAE Systems Electronic Systems, (ES) Precision Guided Munitions Product Line located in Nashua NH is looking for a lead electrical engineer for their Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), program. This position will provide the engineer the opportunity to lead a team of engineers on the next infra-red generation design, development integration, and verification of the THAAD anti-ballistic missile.

The individual selected for this position shall have demonstrated skills as a proven leader with diverse technical capabilities and demonstrated "hands-on" electrical engineering expertise. The individual must be a self-starter with design and development experience working with complex integrated military avionics/electronic hardware and related test equipment.
The engineer will be responsible for developing robust hardware architectures for our solutions and leverage their electrical engineering expertise to perform circuit and CCA design and analysis, FPGA/CPLD designs, technical trade studies, analog/digital/mixed signal interface design, reverse engineer legacy designs, component selection, evaluation of technology insertion/upgrades, and laboratory test and troubleshooting.

With a product focus, the individual is also expected to understand and actively partner with suppliers and operations personnel to develop solutions that adhere to Unit Production Cost (UPC), Design For Test (DFT), and Design For Manufacturing (DFM) requirements.

The selected candidate will be expected to lead and support all phases of the product life cycle from conceptual development and detail design through qualification, manufacturing transition and production support. The engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during test of hardware. This will include evaluating and troubleshooting circuit card level issues, assess test faults for root cause, identify disposition/corrective actions, and evaluate test equipment performance and integrity. Additionally, the individual will be expected to interface with the THAAD Customer on programmatic and technical reviews

The selected lead electrical engineer is expected to have applicable experience in the following areas:

  • Technical leadership of small teams in executing engineering development efforts
  • IR, and other detection and imaging sensor technologies
  • Design of Digital hardware architectures that leverage embedded processors, microcontrollers, and VHDL based FPGAs that provide capability and functionality to a larger system
  • Digital, Analog and Mixed Signal design and troubleshooting with an excellent working knowledge of common electronic circuits and components
  • Design and manufacturing standards associated with complex multilayer CCAs
  • Demonstrated experience in Product/Factory Support of DoD military electronics equipment
  • State-of-the-art electrical engineering design tools
  • Strong "hands-on" laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes
  • Working experience with Interface standards including military/avionics/guidance communication (i.e. ARINC-429, RS-422, Mil-Std-1553, Ethernet)

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years of experience OR a Master's Degree and 10+ years of experience
    5+ years of experience with IR and other detection and imaging technologies
  • Established digital hardware architect for complex military/avionic equipment
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in Product development and support of DoD military electronics equipment
  • Solid fundamentals of digital/analog/mixed signal electronics and interface/communication standards
  • Understanding of complex electronics manufacturing and test methodologies
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with state-of-the-art electrical engineering development tools
  • Motivated self-starter and problem solver with proven experience in leading diverse multi-disciplinary teams
  • DOD Security Clearance
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Current "hands-on" experience with Cadence state-of-the-art electrical engineering development tools
  • Familiarity with image and signal processing algorithms
  • Life cycle engineering support related to diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS)
