Lead Controls Systems Engineer

BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Lead Controls Systems Engineer. Our controls engineering teams in Radford, VA and Kingsport, TN have grown and we are looking for a leader to develop processes and procedures for implementing two of the leading PLC integration systems at our chemical manufacturing facilities.

As the technical lead for software development and control systems design, you will provide technical expertise for the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA, and the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN, where we have a several modernization programs in the $100 million plus range. You will manage the controls systems staff, institute common procedures and standardization, institute peer reviews, oversee software configuration management, and develop control systems software for a wide variety of modernization projects. Initially you will split your time about equally between the two sites, but once processes are in place, your travel time will be reduced to around 25%.

Preference is for this position to be located in Radford, VA. However, we may consider requests for this position to be based in our Kingsport, TN, location with frequent travel to Radford, VA.

In this role, you will be challenged to:

o Develop standardized policy and procedure for control systems

o Develop standardized checkout and qualification procedures for control systems

o Develop and/or review control systems narratives

o Develop and oversee common procedures and standardize best practices

o Implement formal software peer review process

o Develop and implement configuration control for all software systems

o Plan the development and implementation of process control systems

o Provide technical direction and leadership to a team of control systems engineers

o Develop project implementation and commissioning plans

o Review designs and technical documents for accuracy and quality

o Review project estimates, plans, and subcontract scopes of work for quality and accuracy

o Support project teams to develop, implement, and commission large modernization projects

o Develop and/or review software for PLC based control systems

o Develop scopes of work and specifications for subcontractors

o Participate in Hazard Analyses of both new and existing processes
