Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking to hire an IT System Administrator to support the Maritime Solutions program. The selected applicant will join the team as we seek to deliver world-class capabilities for our clients, driving productivity and innovation. This team supports system architecture and design, infrastructure and OS level support, and application support.

The individual will be responsible for managing system administration support activities for our network environment, which includes installing and administrating systems, applications, and processes and ensuring that all issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner. In addition, he/she will be responsible for ensuring server and desktop configuration configurations are optimized and running continuously and efficiently and will perform security management and application performance optimization functions. The environment includes Sun Solaris, Linux and Microsoft-based servers and workstations.

The selected individual must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an energetic, focused, and driven candidate who can adapt well to a changing environment. Ideally, the selected candidate will possess networking skills or must have the ability to learn and complete various network-centric undertakings.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, and installing software on servers and workstations.
  • Using automated tools and scripts to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Working with internal and external organizations to support various customer user level requirements, including resolving elevated end user support requests, and researching and deploying advanced technologies.
  • Implementing approved system security policies to include the configuration of user access and permission across a variety of systems.
  • Configuring new Windows Server 2012/2016 systems, and supporting existing server systems to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Hardening server, desktop, and laptop systems utilizing DISA STIGS and SCAP.
  • Supporting a VMware virtual server environment.
  • Maintaining and monitoring network backups and restoring data as needed.
  • Supporting Windows, Linux, Solaris systems, applying system updates, conducting regular vulnerability scans, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Troubleshooting issues with server and desktop-based applications.
  • Distributing application updates as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

In addition, the selected candidate will assist with the compliance of cybersecurity controls, to include determining the impacts of vulnerabilities, develop and implement mitigation plans, and document all findings. The candidate also performs testing to validate established security requirements, recommend additional security requirements and safeguards, and support the formal testing required by government accrediting authorities.

This position is located in scenic and historic Southern Maryland in the St. Mary's County Technology Corridor adjacent to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

There is no monetary relocation assistance budgeted for this position. Applicants must be currently residing in or state willingness to relocate self to St. Mary's County, Maryland or surrounding areas.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience
Familiarity with Server 2008R2, Server 2012R2, and Server 2016
Experience providing assistance to users and optimizing system operations
Experience in or familiarity with the following systems:
Windows/Linux operating systems
VMware
Networking: Switches, Routers, LANs, & cabling
Active security clearance and the ability to maintain

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+
Experience documenting and providing information for security accreditation and certification
Experience with Network Security Technologies (e.g. Multiple Domain, PKI, SSP, and Vulnerability Assessment)
Understanding of advanced security protocols and standards
Experience with software deployment methods for applications, patches, and operating systems
Experience with OS and Application Hardening to include DISA, Best Practices, and High Assurance environments
Experience with both Client and Server virtualization environments
Understanding of information security principles and practices
Experience with or familiarity with software and security architectures
