Industrial / Continuous Improvement Engineer

Scope :

BAE Systems is a worldwide defense contractor with an established Louisville, Kentucky presence. The Louisville site specializes in the fabrication and assembly of major shipboard components. We are in a sustained growth mode to support long-term fleet modernization and are in search of an Industrial / Continuous Improvement Engineer to support that growth.

This position's primary function will be to manage the capital equipment process for the site. The successful candidate will have successfully demonstrated the ability to specify, select, install, validate and release selected capital equipment projects to operations. To a lesser extent, this role will support waste elimination using classical Industrial Engineering methods, Lean methods and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.

Required Skills and Education
Required Education, Skills, & Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or a strongly related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing related work
  • Working knowledge of engineering fundamentals, Lean concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills with a demonstrated ability to collect meaningful data and make data driven decisions. Accurately and clearly represent activities via process mapping
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio) & AutoCAD
  • Experience using simulation software to model a process is desirable
  • Shop layout experience with a demonstrated understanding of material presentation & flow
  • A fundamental understanding of facility constraints such as space, machine capacity, materials movement, and utilities
  • Experience writing specifications and statements of work
  • The demonstrated ability to manage and report on capital projects is required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proficiency in English
  • The willingness and ability to work with others
  • Formal Six Sigma training would be helpful
