Imaging Engineer (EO/IR)

Job Description
BAE Systems is experiencing continued growth in our Electro-optic/Infrared (EO/IR) markets and we are seeking experienced, highly-motivated Engineers to join our team. The qualified applicants will experience assignments in EO/IR systems, precision pointing, Laser product testing or other related areas of test at our Austin, Texas location. At BAE Systems we design, development and manufacture highly sophisticated EO/IR and other electronic solutions that service a variety of product areas for government and commercial applications.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

  • The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding in one or more of the following: Optics, Laser, Material Science, Precision Pointing, or Image Processing systems
  • Experience Integrating and testing hardware and optical components in a laboratory environment
  • Experience/ability/knowledge working with Focal Plane Arrays (FPA), microbolometers, EO/IR cameras, thermal imaging or night vision technologies
  • Perform analysis to evaluate collection capabilities
  • Experience working /presenting proposals/designs to customers (internal and external)
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and document systems, software and hardware requirements
  • Allocating system requirements to subsystem requirements & creating supplier specifications for custom optical designs
  • Willingness to provide manufacturing support for optical imaging test equipment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and a positive, can-do attitude
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Master's degree in Electrical, Physics, Aerospace, System Engineering
  • A minimum of 6 years of technical experience with US Department of Defense product development
  • Expertise in using EO/IR sensors and image processing technology
  • Experience with one or more of the following: GigE Vision, MIL-STD-1553, serial communications (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485), RS-170, Fibre Channel, TCP/IP and Ethernet data bus interfaces
  • Knowledge and experience with manufacturing support for optical imaging test equipment
  • Knowledge and experience analyzing infrared optical system performance with NV-IPM or NVThermIP modeling software
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and closure oriented skills
  • Strong technical understanding of the advanced capabilities and phenomenology of EO/IR sensors and Lasers
  • Capable of working in a team or independently with minimal supervision. Strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work on a variety of technical problems, individually and as a member of a team
