BAE Systems Electronic Systems, (ES) Precision Guided Munitions Product Line located in Hudson NH is looking for a Mechanical Engineering hardware lead to support the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons Systems (APKWS) production contracts. APKWS is laser guided missile with proven success on multiple, both domestic and foreign, airborne platforms.

The candidate selected will lead a highly collaborative team of mechanical engineers addressing many areas from supplier hardware interactions, to production issues, to the evaluation, integration and test of APKWS hardware enhancements. This is highly dynamic position and will provide the engineer the challenging opportunity to work closely in a fast paced environment with program management, engineering and production teams to achieve "on-time" production deliveries in excess of 15,000 APKWS units per year.

The individual selected for this position shall have demonstrated skills as a self-starter with the autonomy to apply extensive mechanical engineering design and analyses knowledge in evaluating current and new hardware to be compliant with the stringent requirements of a supersonic missile system. This individual will be expected to coordinate the APKWS mechanical engineering team and participate in a multitude of mechanical engineering topics that impact the manufacturing of APKWS. Additionally, this individual will participate and guide the team in hardware non-compliances, their root cause, identification and disposition/corrective actions that ensure the resolution of issues that impact production. This individual will have responsibility of adhering to program schedules and the prioritization and execution of mechanical engineering task that support production deliveries,

This lead position and its connection to production will have the individual responsible for understanding the importance of engineering's contribution to achieving hardware with "zero defects" both internally and externally. The individual will actively partner with suppliers and operations personnel to assure the mechanical engineering team is cognizant and adhering, in their work, to Unit Production Cost (UPC).

The selected lead mechanical engineer is expected to have applicable experience in the following areas:

  • Technical leadership of small teams in executing engineering development efforts
  • Hardware and assembly level design and tolerancing experience using Pro-E/CREO
  • Analyses of hardware designs and their compliance to manufacturing requirements
  • Experience developing requirements, test plans and evaluation techniques for new hardware
  • Reviewing drawings, test data and other technical data derived from test
  • Tracking, resolving and defining corrective action problems found during testing and production.
  • Strong "hands-on" mechanical experience with test equipment and measurement technologies

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 12+ years of experience OR a Master's Degree and 10+ years of experience
  • Solid fundamentals of mechanical engineering principles and standards
  • Understanding of complex mechanical manufacturing and test methodologies
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and perform tolerance assessments
  • CREO 3D CAD Modeling ability
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter and problem solver with proven experience in leading teams
  • Ability to interface and work cooperatively with external customers
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Ansys, Finite element modeling skills - thermal and structural, transient shock.
  • Eligible - DOD Security Clearance
  • 6-Sigma Trained
