Graphic Designer/Illustrator I

Job Description

To design and coordinate artwork for material to be presented by technical order hardcopy or visual communication media.

I. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties and responsibilities which occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job. Incumbent(s) perform one or more of the following duties.)

1. Designs art and copy layouts for material to be presented by paper or visual communications media such as civil engineering manuals, technical orders, time compliant technical orders (TCTOs), technical order page supplement (TOPS), and presentations. Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, selects style and size of type, and arranges layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles, and aesthetic design concepts.

2. Draws illustrations for reproduction using paint, ink or computer software programs.

3. Reviews final layout and suggests improvements as needed. May prepare illustrations or rough sketches of material according to instructions of requestor.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education Required Education

Bachelor Degree or three additional years of experience in lieu of a degree

Knowledge of editing, generating new or updates to drawings, and practices and styles. Perform text and graphic composition at page makeup for process of final technical order reproduction copies. Knowledge of layout of text and graphics for compliance with specifications and directives.

Preferred Skills and Education

A Bachelor’s degree, but not required with the appropriate demonstrable experience. Knowledge of technical data management policies. Knowledge of the Air Force Technical Order Management system. Knowledge of the layout of text and graphics for compliance with specifications and directives.
