Flight Test and Research Engineer

As a Senior Principle Flight Test and Research Engineer in the Planning and Control Technologies (PCT) directorate, you will be in the forefront of operational analysis and research engineering focused on system test, behavioral analysis, field support, and business development for state of the art Battle Management Command and Control technologies. In the position, you will leverage your expertise and experience in ensuring that PCT’s advance technologies are meeting the needs of our customers and end-user warfighters. You will serve as the “go-to” expert on the operation, performance and behaviors of the PCT technologies for our customers and end-user warfighters. In addition, you will use your leadership and management skills to build additional operational analysis expertise among PCT engineers.

The position requires 25 percent travel for onsite support as the BAE expert for the suite of mission planning applications. This position offers significant opportunities for career growth in the leadership and operational analysis activities for which you will demonstrate:

  • Customer Focus

o Interact directly with current and potential customers to understand their requirements and guide Research and Development efforts to meet their needs

o Support business development through identification of business opportunities, concept innovation, proposal writing, and customer interfacing

o Contribute to integrated business plan, leverage plan, and business case development for potential pursuits

  • Leadership

o Serve as an organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.

o Provide onsite and offsite training for other analysts, developers and operators

o Lead teams of 5+ personnel for both technical and business development activities

  • Subject Matter Expertise

o Serve as subject matter expert of U.S. electronic warfare and aircraft survivability programs, as well as threat radars, command and control systems.

o Provide operationally relevant measures in order to support use case and requirements development and assess that the system is functioning as intended

o Identify functionality and performance gaps and gaps in the ability of operators to properly use the system

o Conduct research on force employment/doctrine to refine testing

o Develop a deep understanding of the application behaviors and relevant operational environments to serve as an onsite Subject Matter Expert

  • Technical Skills

o Provide operational analysis, system-level behavioral testing, and analysis of process flows to verify the intent of the system design and modifications

o Employ operationally relevant scenarios to deliberately test dependent/integrated components

o Support analytical tool and visualization development

o Identify optimal system properties/settings to achieve operationally relevant behavior

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 15 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education 1. Current experience using U.S. range test and training capabilities, software and tools used for analysis of surface-to-air tracking and electronic warfare testing on open air ranges, as well as in modeling and simulation environments.

2. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering related discipline with 12+ year of experience, or Master’s Degree and 10+ years of professional experience, or Doctorate and 7+ years of professional experience

3. Familiarity with Optimization theory

4. Current US Citizenship

Preferred Skills and Education 1. Experience in Vehicle Routing and mission planning systems

2. Experience in Operations Research

3. Experience in Control Theory

4. DoD Familiarity, to include one of Battle Management technologies, Military Simulations, and the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) domain

5. Active Top Secret security clearance
