Facilities Tech Intern / Facilities Engineering

Job Description
BAE Systems' Electronic Systems (ES) sector is looking for candidates to join our Facilities Engineering team starting in the winter (January) or summer (May / June) . We have an intern position for a talented, up and coming Facilities project, electrical, mechanical, controls, facilities engineers who want to work for a prominent high-tech company where technical excellence is highly valued. Our mission is "We protect those who protect us", and as a Facilities Engineering Intern in Electronic Systems, you will develop your career skills while helping to protect the brave men and women in our armed forces, intelligence, and first responder communities.

ES develops advanced electronic solutions, which are fielded on everything from Electronic Warfare (EW) mission systems to state of the art imaging, targeting, guidance, and survivability solutions to assist and protect the warfighter. Our products must work the first time and every time because lives depend on it. The stakes are high!

Facilities engineering interns work side-by-side with experienced project management, site management, project coordinators and senior engineering staff.

This internship is a paid internship, which will be at BAE SYSTEMS in southern New Hampshire and will provide general insight into commercial boilers, operational controls, electrical power distribution, HVAC, industrial mechanicals, facilities planning and management.

Some of the responsibilities of a Facilities Engineering Intern II include but not limited to:

Plant Engineering.

  • Shadow Plant Engineering personnel by working alongside skilled tradesmen and maintenance mechanics in order to understand the basic level of facility maintenance and management at one of the designated facilities throughout New Hampshire. This will include receiving an understanding of day-to-day life of tradesmen as well as basic knowledge of the scope of each trade. It will also provide a functional understanding of building codes and regulations that must be followed in order to maintain a facility properly.

  • The intern will also work alongside Plant Engineering supervisors in order to better understand the next level of facility management. The Intern will learn basic concepts of management such as employee punctuality, and productivity, delegation of assignments, the use of a CMMS work order system, communication skills with direct reports, management, customers, vendors, contractors etc

Facilities Engineering & Project Management.

  • Shadow Senior Facilities Engineers in order to be familiar the process of designing and completing a construction project in a unique environment of a defense contractor. This will include seeing and becoming familiar with the large number of projects that are in many different stages of completion throughout the company.

  • The intern will learn how to coordinate with all parties involved with a specific project. This includes the customer, contractors, site and facilities management etc. The intern will learn the importance of communication with all parties involved in order to see a project run smoothly as possible. While working with project managers, the intern will most likely experience the unforeseeable problems or issues that often occur during a project. The intern will learn how project managers go about making changes or troubleshooting ideas to overcome each issue in order to complete projects within budget and schedule.

Must be a US Citizen
Must be eligible to obtain a US Government Secret level clearance
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program for Electrical, Mechanical, Facilities Management or a related field
Must have completed the equivalent of Sophomore year of an undergraduate program (entering Junior year of undergraduate degree)
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

GPA of 3.0 or higher is strongly preferred
Secret Clearance or higher preferred
CAD experience is preferred
Demonstrated leadership skills
Understanding of infrastructure, and utilities preferred
