Environmental Specialist

The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for: implementing and maintaining programs for environmental protection and compliance; act as a liaison with local, state, and federal environmental agencies; inspection and oversight of Best Management Practices; participating in emergency planning activities; integrating environmental programs in the production environment; and training of employees and subcontractors. Develops and implements programs to ensure that environment regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner and that environmental risks are effectively managed. Prepares related reports and studies for submission to regulatory agencies. The job has an emphasis in hazardous material and waste management, but will also include SPCC, Storm Water, Wastewater Treatment, TRI, and Environmental Sustainability. Some supervisory responsibilities required, primarily focusing on coordinating and leading projects. Other duties and job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety or equivalent field
  • Previous experience with hazardous waste management
  • Thorough knowledge of EHS regulations and modern EHS management principles
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively with employees and all levels of site management (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative individually
  • Ability to coach and consult with line management, at all levels relative, to building a culture and processes that lead to excellent SHE performance
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working groups
  • Possess basic knowledge of Environmental and Safety Management System (ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 requirements
  • Work proficiently with Microsoft Office

Preferred Skills and Education

  • 2-3+ years of Safety Health and Environmental Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory or consulting company.
  • Knowledge of engineering, chemical, physical and biological sciences
  • CHMM certification
  • Experience in a union environment
  • Experience with or basic knowledge of plating operations
