Eng Sr Prin II - Research

Looking for a highly motivated engineer/scientist to lead process and product development activities at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Prior experience working with HE (high explosive) and energetic materials is highly desirable. This position will be focused on propellant formulation and manufacture, including but not limited to, manufacture of extruded double base (EDB) solventless propellants. The candidate should be proficient in ballistic modeling and simulation codes for gun systems and/or rocket systems.

Interested candidates should exhibit sound judgment, initiative and self-motivation, and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Solid communication, teamwork and integration skills will be required to work effectively across functions at multiple levels. The ability to manage time effectively while dealing with a variety of issues in a dynamic environment will be key to the success of this individual.

The successful candidate will under his/her own initiative devise and refine safe, effective, and efficient methods of manufacturing energetic formulations; undertake experiments using corrosive, explosive, and toxic materials in a safe manner; specify lab and pilot equipment in support of development experiments and lab, pilot, and full scale process development; provide chemical support to BAE production departments; and maintain adequate records of work and present in a form suitable for management and legal reporting. Technical writing and presentation skills are required.
