Electrical Material Estimator/Planner

Job Description

Interpret drawings, technical manuals and work specifications to develop material estimates and requisitions for repairs on US Navy and Commercial ships.
Develop material estimates and requisitions for new/growth work resultant from inspection reports, deficiency reports & contract changes.
Will be responsible to solicit suppliers for price and availability information for materials where required.
Be cognizant of materials that are Long Lead Time Material (LLTM) and identify as such as needed.
Generate Requests For Clarification (RFC's) and Inspection/Deficiency Reports (IDR's) as required with regard to government furnished information, customer furnished information, and regarding material problems and issues. Review and take appropriate action on all answered correspondence.

Interface with trades as necessary to assure material estimates and requisitions contain the proper size, type, and quantity of material needed to support their particular production effort. Trade interface also required to field questions, identify issues and prevent/resolve problems to ensure a quality product.
Review and assure that all requisitions are complete, accurate and submitted on schedule. Be cognizant of all schedules in order to apply schedule sensitive need dates for every requisition.
Will be responsible to monitor material budget levels and obtain necessary procurement authorizations.

Interface with the Purchasing Dept. regarding cost and supplier information. Provide all new pricing information to the Buyers.
Frequent contact with the Labor Estimators, Buyers, Ship Superintendents, Craft Supervisors and Craft Personnel. Frequent contact with outside material suppliers.
Perform similar, incidental and other duties as assigned.
Able to work independently with minimal immediate supervision.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Minimum 6+ years experience in the repair of US Navy ships with the emphasis on ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, Equipment and Components. Systems would include, but not be limited to, all facets of Communications, Alarms, Weapons, Lighting and Cathodic Protection. Equipment and Components to include but not be limited to; cabling (both copper & fiber optic), circuit breakers, switchboards, power distribution, connectors/backshells, motors, generators & controllers.

Preferred Skills and Education

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be proficient in Excel, Word and Data entry skills. Experience using an MRP system a plus.
