BUSINESS AREA BACKGROUND:

The Instrumentation Products and Sustainment business unit (IP&S) is headquartered in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. BAE Systems has over 40 years of experience in designing and manufacturing Instrumentation Radar Systems, Electro-Optical Systems, Test Range Asset Modernizations and Upgrades. Our capabilities include design, fabrication and integration of hardware and software to support a wide variety of test range requirements including RF and Electro Optical (EO) TSPI Instrumentation, Threat Simulators, CW Doppler and EO Behavioral Systems, Drop and No-Drop Bomb Scoring Systems, Telemetry Systems and Flight Termination Systems.

The technologies and resources of BAE Systems is dedicated to designing, manufacturing, integrating, and sustaining range products that are required for current test ranges and programs envisioned for future test ranges, aviation test facilities and launch facilities.

I. BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Designs major components, or major portions of a functional system, or technically advanced prototype, promotional or specific products. Develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

II. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties and responsibilities which occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job. Incumbent(s) perform one or more of the following duties.)

  1. The ability to create innovative & safe solutions to meet external, internal customer requirements.

  2. Supply technical drawings and 3 dimensional models of specialized parts, tooling, and assembly.

  3. Work with Engineers and outside vendors during fabrication of products in development.

  4. Produce technical drawings, assembly drawings, & bill of materials.

  5. Solve problems with and provide technical advice to the production and quality control departments.

  6. Compile all existing engineering documentation and organize it into the approved design documentation format.

  7. Maintain multiple CAD and documentation databases.

  8. Coordinate with engineers and other design personnel to satisfy detail design requirements for proposals and industrial or military equipment.

  9. Review completed work checking accuracy of dimensions, materials to be used, relationship of one part to another and various parts to the whole and quantities.

  10. Check quality and accuracy of designs, drawings and sketches produced by lower level drafters and designers in work unit.

  11. Maintain records of each plan's phase of completion and location.

  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
