Deputy Chief Scientist
BAE Systems is looking for a highly experienced Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership to a major, long-established, U.S. Navy weapon system acquisition program, with a strong emphasis in the areas of Systems Engineering & Test, Interface Requirements, Documentation & Training, System Safety, Software Development, Facilities Engineering, and Logistics. As part of the role, this individual will interface with a variety of technical customers, including those who are responsible for the various subsystems that comprise the weapons systems, along with the surety group, and their support contractors.
The successful candidate will be skilled in technical matters and in interpersonal communications, understanding the need for and capable of exercising influence, mentoring, and identifying/driving solutions to technical problems. In addition, the individual must be a recognized expert in the Strategic Deterrence community.
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
Minimum education and skills/experience required: BS or equivalent experience in systems engineering (classical and MBSE), computer science, cybersecurity, mathematics, physics, or related fields. A minimum of 15 years' technical experience leading engineering services development and execution, and sustainment activities. Significant experience supporting strategic deterrence missions in a technical leadership role. Thorough understanding of industry best practices and lessons learned in systems engineering services development and management processes. Excellent oral and written communications skills, with technical emphasis.
Security clearance requirement: Active SECRET clearance, with ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance.
Preferred Skills and Education
Highly desired, but not required:
Active Top-Secret clearance
Post-graduate degree in related technical, acquisition, or program management-related discipline.
Prior industry experience that afforded opportunities to ensure the safety, security, reliability, and effectiveness of major defense systems such as Trident, Minuteman, or Peacekeeper.
Knowledge and experience working in the DoD/DOE technical services industry.
Experience in community networking with academia and non-defense agencies.
Experience in the planning, development, and execution of adjacent growth market opportunities and business plans.
Experience working with non-engineering functions and business processes (business development, proposal development, contracts, pricing, finance, procurement).
