Job Description
The Intelligence & Security Sector is seeking a Solution Architect responsible for data science, big data, and AI/ML solution development across the sector. This position will report to the Office of the Chief Technology Officer for the Sector.
The Solution Architect (SA) will serve as a core technical subject matter expert in data science, and will ideally have experience with big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, and will act as an engineering design authority for pursuits across the Federal Defense, Intelligence, and Civil markets. The SA is a member of a team of technical experts and will be given opportunities to lead and grow. The position will develop technical solutions in response to Government requests for information, market surveys, and requests for proposal. The SA will lead development of technical solutions and must be familiar with and contribute to management, staffing, schedule, and cost solutions.
The SA will be expected to build and maintain deep technical expertise, as well as developing and describing winning solutions. The SA will participate in early phase marketing, such as concept development, white paper generation, and directed research, and may direct research or intern teams to develop or enhance key capabilities enabling expansion into new lines of business.
Duties and Responsibilities include leading and developing data science, AI/ML, and big data solutions, understanding critical customer program goals, and developing and documenting winning, best-value solutions. The SA will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in these technologies, and develop additional, adjacent skills. The SA may be given oversight of other staff and interns to accomplish prototypes and product evaluations, develop proofs-of-concept, and perform analysis of alternatives. The SA must be able to develop and document a technical solution and communicate it to a proposal, management, and cost team, and successfully lead technical proposal teams through the business winning lifecycle. The SA may be asked to serve as a public face for BAE Systems I&S in their area of expertise, and to collaborate across BAE Systems. Strong written and verbal communications skills are a must.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor Degree in appropriate discipline (e.g. Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Computer Sciences) and a minimum of 10 years of experience, including 5+ years of data science or AI/ML experience.
OR
Master's Degree in appropriate discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience, including 5+ years of data science or AI/ML experience.
Required Experience Skills:
• 10+ years of experience (with a Bachelor Degree) or 5+ years of experience (with a Master's Degree) supporting large-scale proposal efforts, leading a diverse team of technical and operational specialists, and involving the development of novel or innovative new solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to decompose complex system and software requirements into easy to understand solutions with clear value propositions.
• Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively at the most senior levels of government (customer) or corporate management (company) to articulate the understanding of their mission needs and requirements, and to communicate the value and benefit of BAE Systems solutions.
• Demonstrated data science, AI/ML experience.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
•Demonstrated ability to lead and win complex opportunities with the Federal Government. Should have led winning proposals with total contract value on individual deals over $75M.
•Knowledge of current data science, AI/ML, and big data technologies, deployment models, and cloud native design principles
•Knowledge of system development methodologies including requirement engineering, configuration management, technical baseline management, cost estimating and analysis, and decision support methodologies
•Knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies, including scope, cost and schedule, and resource management, including Earned Value Management
•Experience collaborating across organizations and OEMs, participating in industry forums and conferences, writing and presenting technical papers
•AWS Certified Associate Architect, Developer or SysOps Administrator
•Microsoft Certified System Administrator in Cloud Platform or related certification
•Agile Certification
