Computer System Architect

Job Description
MBSE Solutions Architect (SA) will serve as the competency lead for model-based systems engineering (MBSE), model-based engineering (MBE), and Digital Engineering (DE) transformation for the development and deployment of these capabilities to our programs and top opportunities in the the Army, Navy, and Federal Civilian markets. The SA will develop both enterprise-wide strategies as well as the point solutions major opportunities in full lifecycle systems engineering and integration, software engineering and sustainment, and cybersecurity and information assurance for C4ISR, weapon systems, and enterprise IT systems. The SA will also lead key internal research and development (IRAD) and strategic investment efforts to enable and to improve the business area's ability to deliver state-of-the-art MBSE/MBE capabilities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Owns the development of technical solutions as the lead SA for key opportunities, OTAs, and other bids and proposals, in terms of
    • Contextual, conceptual and logical architectures using standards-based, rigorous methodologies and practices
    • Proof-of-concept models and prototypes, and internal and external demonstrations
    • Technology and architecture trade studies by applying proven analysis of alternatives (AoA) methodologies
    • Cost estimates and basis of estimates (BOE) based on industry-accepted methodologies
    • Lead proposal writers for technical, management, cost, and/or past performance volume
  • Lead key IRAD and strategic technology investment efforts
  • Serve as the leading evangelist to engage customers and our programs providing technical presentations, developing white papers and RFI responses
Other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technology advisor for these technical areas to the business area chief engineer and the line leaders in technology strategies and technical roadmaps
  • Serves as SME to incubate MBSE/MBE practices in existing programs through pilot efforts and direct program support
  • Developing technology and capability whitepapers and other industry-level publlications and presentations
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities, but may lead or assign project tasks to team members.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Bachelor Degree in appropriate discipline (e.g. Engineering, Computer Sciences) and a minimum of 15 years of system development experience, including 5 or more years of MBSE/MBE, PLM, or software development experience
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively at the most senior levels of government (customer) or corporate management (company) to articulate the understanding of their mission needs and requirements, and to communicate the value and benefit of BAE Systems solutions
  • Experience leading technical solution development, in particular, architecture and CONOPS development using MBSE methodologies including SysML, for software-intensive system integration, support, maintenance, and sustainment
  • Expertise and hands-on experience with engineering development environment and industry-leading MBSE tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, software development tools, and PLM systems
  • Experience and expertise in system development methodologies including object-oriented methodologies, requirement engineering, configuration management, technical baseline management, cost estimating and analysis, and decision support methodologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, industrial engineering, production and manufacturing, and supply chain systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies, including scope, cost and schedule, and resource management
  • Experience supporting large-scale proposal efforts, comprising a diverse team of technical and operational specialists, and involving the development of novel or innovative new solutions
Preferred Skills and Education
  • Master Degree in appropriate discipline (e.g. Engineering, Computer Sciences)
  • INCOSE SEP certifications
  • IT specific domain knowledge, including (i) ITIL; (ii) Cybersecurity and Information Assurance; (iii) Enterprise IT infrastructure; and (iv) Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) systems
  • Experience with cybersecurity, RMF and information assurance including cyber defense, SOC, cyber range technologies, Information Security Frameworks and Standards (ISO, COBIT, NIST, etc.)
Experience with Defense Systems including, but not limited to, weapon systems, combat systems, and C4ISR systems
