Civil / Structural Designer

BAE Systems is hiring a Civil/Structural Designer at HSAAP. This is a full-time, direct-hire, salaried position working on design of large capital projects for a chemical manufacturing facility - new construction and retrofit. In this position, you will work in a multi-discipline team environment to develop project design packages including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work. You will be challenged to:

o Design and create accurate, complete, detailed fabrication/construction drawings and technical packages for buildings, structures, and components to develop civil and structural design packages.

o Develop estimates, scopes of work, design concepts, and supporting documentation for proposals.

o Present solutions to various, moderately complex, technical problems while working under general supervision.

o Provide field support during construction and commissioning as required.

The Civil/Structural Designer will:

o Develop 3D models and design drawings in AutoCAD and SmartPlant 3D

o Develop civil/structural solutions in support of modernization programs

o Design structural elements and generate detailed fabrication drawings for bridges, platforms, foundations, steel and wood building framing, trusses, structural steel supports for equipment and piping, reinforced concrete supports, and concrete dikes

o Review and approve shop drawings

o Perform field survey of existing facilities for incorporation into design

o Ensure designs meet Engineering Standards, Safety Standards, and applicable codes

o Assist project team in developing bids, proposals, scopes of work, estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, design drawings, and other project documentation

o Develop site plans including grading, utilities, and erosion control measures

o Certify accuracy and completeness of all deliverable products and services in assigned areas of responsibility including verification of subcontractor work in accordance with Scope of Work

o Develop project bills of material

o Write Work Orders and Purchase Requests

o Coordinate work with suppliers, subcontractors, maintenance, and/or construction firms

o Interface with Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Piping, Production, Safety, and Environmental

o Walk down systems and make any as-built changes to drawings

o Participate in HAZOP and FMEA reviews

o Support checkout, troubleshooting, and commissioning

A. Physical Tasks: Exerts limited physical energy, must be able to climb stairs and carry loads up to 50 pounds

B. Working Conditions: Normal office and production environments. Must be able to wear respirator and other PPE May work extended hours or weekends. May travel overnight or on weekends.
