Chemical Engineering Intern - Summer

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and Fortune 500 Company, is seeking a Chemical Engineering Co-op/Intern for Spring and/or Summer term of 2019 at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA.

The successful candidate will support the Nitrocellulose/Acid manufacturing team and receive projects/assignments with increasing levels of responsibility. This person will be teamed with and working along side existing process engineers within the production area to evaluate current processes and optimizing manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production area. This candidate will be an integral part of the team, interfacing with the hourly workforce, shift supervisors, engineers, functional support groups etc. Excellent communication and organizational skills will be required to provide shop floor support, guidance, and direction to operations personnel.

Required Skills and Education

Must currently be pursuing a degree in engineering at an accredited college or university
Must have declared engineering as their major and completed a minimum of one year of engineering coursework
Must have one of the following majors: Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum GPA: 2.75

Preferred Skills and Education

Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher
Experience with data analysis, equipment troubleshooting, or revising equipment drawings
Previous experience working with Piping Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC),
Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
