Business Area Catagory Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for the generation and implementation of category strategies that leverage spend, rationalize supply base and significantly improve supplier performance and efficiencies across all KPI's (Quality, Cost, Delivery, cycle-timer & technologies) across a broad range of products and technologies. Supports $250M + spend

Main Responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing category sourcing strategies, covering all elements of category management (define, analysis, execute and manage), based on existing and forecasted spend, demand and supply challenges, and marketplace conditions, ensuring alignment with Business Area objectives.

• Lead and/or assist in the formulation and implementation of sourcing strategies, participate on cross-functional teams that ensure that BAE Systems is leveraging spend, driving best value and improving overall supplier performance

• Make decisions using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

• Engage cross functional and cross business teams in category management activities, promoting the value add

• Use a range of tools to analysis the defined category (spend, market and supplier analysis)

• Develop category strategy and document associated value proposition

• Execute category sourcing strategy in line with company and Business Area requirements & processes

• Support supplier capability assessments

• Create negotiation strategies and lead those negotiations

• Work with the businesses and other functions to ensure category recommendations meet expectations and best outcomes are achieved

• Manage supplier performance and drive improvement, as required

• Responsible for leading a deployed cross business and cross functional team of professionals working across geographic boundaries, motivating them to achieve the category vision and building category management capability

• Develop support material for category management to standardize processes, document lessons learned and good practice and deliver improved operational efficiency

• Report to senior leaders verbally and in writing on the progress of the category strategy, in particular against savings made and future savings projections

• Own and deliver the category in year savings plan

• Coach and develop cross functional and cross business category team members

Typical Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 12 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

• Experience of category management in a complex and fast paced environment

• Demonstrated track record of delivering supplier cost saving, execution efficiencies and cash strategies at a senior level.

• Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers

• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills

• Ability to translate complex procurement guidance into simple, straightforward and practical advice

• Commercially astute with excellent negotiation and persuasive skills

• Project management skills

• CIPS Qualified or working towards qualification

• Ability to work at all levels in the organization

• Deliver value add procurement strategies, influencing senior leaders within the business to support implementation through the provision of a clear business case identifying the opportunities and communicating how any identified risks are being managed

• Reporting at a senior level on category progress

• Proactive management of suppliers on behalf to ensure the category vision is achieved, working with senior leaders in the business as appropriate

• Promoting the role of procurement across the organization and the value add

• Understand and challenge current ways of working to improve efficiency and drive collaboration

• Identify problems in order to suggest opportunities for continuous improvement

• Be bold and innovative in the approach to problem solving

• This is a highly visible, strategically important senior leader role
