Assistant Director, Modernization

BAE Systems, one of the world’s leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring an Assistant Director for our Modernization Programs for the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, TN, and the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA. This position may be located at either site.

Reporting to the Program Director, Modernization the Assistant Director, Modernization will primarily serve as the second in command for the Modernization Organization. The successful candidate shall lead the team and support the overall mission of the organization to successfully implement projects on time/budget while enhancing customer satisfaction and growing the capability of our people to ensure future success. Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

o Supervises Project Managers/Integrated Master Schedulers within OSI, including making performance appraisals/evaluations.

o Supports in planning and execution of business financial objectives for orders, sales, gross margin, EBITA and cash for up to 5 years forecasted annually. Provides quarterly updates as part of regular business rhyme.

o Develops strategy, identifies/pursues/captures new business opportunities. Reviews and approves customer proposals. Develops strategy for supports and concludes negotiations with customers and suppliers (when required). Develops content and budget for Modernization organization overhead expense annually.

o Monitors program performance for schedule, technical soundness, quality, field reliability and financial objectives. Identifies and implements corrective actions, as required. Ensures all programs are reviewed and a recurring basis and have risk mitigation/opportunity exploitation plans in place.

o Maintains regular interface (meetings, telecons, IPT’s, etc.) with customers on key programs. Ensures customer expectations are met, problems resolved, potential issues surfaced, mitigation plans in place, and potential new orders/business opportunities identified.

o Develops working relationships with other functions (supply chain, engineering, operations, finance, etc.). Establishes both formal and informal methods for sharing project management and construction management knowledge with less experienced personnel within the Modernization organization to further develop and enhance the overall OSI project management team. Develops training programs and training plans to enhance the skills of all personnel within the group. Communicates with staff on business status/needs. Conducts formal performance and development reviews for direct reports (if required) and provides 360 degree feedback for others. Serves as Phase Review Chairman for other business areas.

o Identifies and assesses problem areas. Develops recovery plans with least impact to business and customer objectives.

o Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Supports the implementation of BAE Systems LCM processes.

o Fosters capturing of Best Practices and Lessons Learned and ensures that the appropriate practices and lessons are properly applied throughout the business.

o Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

o Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree and 15 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education o Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Business Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or similar field.

o 15 years of work experience or equivalent experience within Business Management, Program Management, Finance, Engineering or Supply Chain.

o 8 years relevant experience to include managing cross-functional teams to deliver commitments.

Preferred Skills and Education o Advanced Degree preferred

o Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent

o Experience in managing projects for the US Department of Defense

o Experience managing construction projects
