Analytics and Data Science Internship Summer 2020

Job Description

Summer 2020 (Beginning May 2020) located in Sterling Heights, MI.

This position is for an individual interested in data science, business intelligence, analytics and data visualization. This role will be an intern and individual contributor on a team. The individual will be helping to support the Engineering function. Understanding of how products (vehicles) and software are designed, as well as how information technology is applied to Engineering work, will be helpful.

This role includes analyzing and working with datasets and databases. Design and creation of databases, dashboards and data visualization. Helping to understand business process and data flow, creating documents that capture process, key points of measurement and how people interact. The goal of these tools/systems is to deliver pertinent data to all levels of management to help teams make smarter decisions and deliver better products with regards to business intelligence. The candidate will be required to work closely with multiple stakeholders and leaders to analyze and validate data visualization and business intelligence requirements. The candidate will utilize their skill set to develop strategies in an effort to standardize and automate processes and systems based on their analytics and research

Typical Education & Experience

Required Skills and Education
The selected candidate must be actively enrolled and pursuing a 4 year college degree in either Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Engineering (software development), Business or related fields.

Candidate is entering their Junior or Senior or Graduate Degree Program in 2020

Strong communication skills - verbal and written

Demonstrated ability to communicate across functional lines, with management, multiple customers and users

Ability to assess and make judgments in relation to prioritization of task

Attention to detail

Time management and personal organization

Ability to work in a team

Strong personal computer knowledge with strong aptitude in spreadsheet and database development including MS Access and MS Excel and MS Power BI (or similar tool)

Direct experience with designing and creating relational databases

Direct experience with designing and creating visual representation of data

Preferred Skills and Education
Experience or training completed: Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Alteryx, PowerBI, or Tableau

Firm understanding of project management fundamentals

Firm understanding of Agile (Scrum) development methodology fundamentals

Ability to turn an idea/schematic into an operational system/or tool
