Marketing Manager, Search, Marketplaces and Shopping Engines

Backcountry is looking for an experienced and analytical marketing manager to own the strategy and execution of several marketing channels that drive customer acquisition.  This role will oversee several marketing channels with some of our largest marketing spend budgets, including Paid Search,  Product Ads and Shopping Campaigns, including Amazon, eBay and major comparison shopping engines. This person will set the marketing strategy for these channels across multiple websites and both co-ordinate and execute with a team or marketers to drive short and long-term revenue and profitability.  This position oversees a major part of the Backcountry P&L and one of the fastest growing areas of the business.  It will have financial oversight of the results, providing regular updates to Executive leadership on performance and strategic progress.

About the Job:

  • Set the strategic direction for key online, quantitative marketing channels including search, marketplaces and comparison shopping engines
  • Ownership of financial targets for these channels and day to day operational oversight and delivery
  • Collaborate with teams across the business including technology and merchandising to optimize channel performance
  • Develop a roadmap for these channels that increases traffic, conversion and ultimately long-term profitability
  • Expertly leverage third-party marketing platforms and partnerships including Google, Bing, Yahoo, and DoubleClick to improve sophistication of campaign management and decision making
  • Develop and manage bid techniques to maximise customer acquisition and life-time profiability
  • Develop and implement a framework for continuous testing and scaling of new campaign features and strategies
  • Work with colleagues from merchandising, marketing and creative teams to effectively promote key product stories and promotions
  • Partner with marketing analytics to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of campaign management and bid decisions
  • Own the relationship with publishers such as Google, fostering a highly collaborative partnership and ensuring participation in all relevant beta tests
  • Develop recommendations for appropriate measurement and reporting, at both the operational level and long-term strategic development

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of in quantitative marketing for eCommerce, B2C businesses
  • Proven experience handling large marketing channel budgets with ROI related targets
  • Experience of online marketing channels including search and marketplaces
  • Proven experience integrating web analytics data into a strategic channel strategy
  • Proven ability to grow sales and improve efficiency in paid marketing channels
  • Demonstrated ability to take accountability for key business functions and hit associated KPIs
  • Demonstrated ability to own strategy of new marketing channels or channel features
  • Very strong analytical skills
  • An understanding of sophisticated online marketing techniques at scale, with proven knowledge of how to apply analytics and technology
  • Excel super user and basic knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with an obsession to detail and quality
  • Exceptional work ethic and proven ability to overcome obstacles to deliver results
