Director Sourcing - Owned Brands (Apparel and Technical)

Backcountry’s mission is to connect people with their passions.  The team executes this mission through an industry-defining team of deeply knowledgeable gearheads, unparalleled breadth and depth of assortment, world-class fulfillment capabilities, and an iconic brand.  The successful candidate will lead the Sourcing team for Backcountry, a fast growing and profitable business based in Park City, Utah.

The Director of Sourcing is accountable for bringing our various private label brands (“Owned Brands”) to market.  Specifically, they will be accountable to delivering on our high-quality brand promise, ensuring that we achieve ambitious profitability targets, and for meeting product delivery dates.  The right leader will have strategic and executional experience both building and leading sourcing organizations.  This leader will be an excellent cross-functional partner and a terrific communicator.

 

 

ABOUT THE JOB:

 

  • Partner with Owned Brands product and design teams to ensure we deliver high quality product that lives up to our iconic brand
  • Align with Finance on ambitious seasonal profitability targets, then over-deliver those targets
  • Proactively manage capacity needs for a portfolio of Owned Brands that will scale to +$100M
  • Establish long-term partnerships with key factory base, contemplating delivery risk, geo-political risk, tariff risk, quality and margins
  • Ensure adherence to Corporate Social Responsibility standards with factories
  • Create vendor scorecards that are multi-dimensional and use visibility to drive accountability
  • Collaborate with the EVP of Owned Brands to provide critical input in the product creation process to optimize features and functionalities of product
  • Partner with EVP of Owned Brands to build go-to-market calendar and manage factory partners to ensure calendar discipline
  • Bring forward-looking innovation and fabrication ideas to our Product team and lead execution
  • Own Greige Fabric commitments, balance risk with availability and margin 
  • Bring healthy tension to assortment decisions based on MOQ, margin, and quality concerns
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in the development and implementation of all process and technology improvements that relate to product creation and sourcing
  • Build and develop team of sourcing professionals, cultivating talent, and developing succession plans for entire team.

 

ABOUT YOU:

  • 8+ years of experience in a Sourcing position, with at least 4 years at an established brand
  • 2+ years of senior level management experience
  • Knowledge of global factory base for apparel and accessories
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with peers and cross-functional teams
  • Flexible and adaptive to changing priorities
  • Able to perform under pressure, organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong aptitude to learn technical applications quickly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
