Senior Staff Accountant

Why it Matters: As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for the monthly close, and lend your skills towards developing and implementing accounting policies. This person will participate in budgeting and forecasting, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and assist in preparing schedules for board reporting. This role is very integrated into the production of financial statements, cash flow projections, and budgets. This is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity with growth potential.  

The Details: In this role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations 
  • Maintain and update recurring journal entries 
  • Work with team to perform the month end, quarter end and year end closing process, including monthly financial workbook preparation
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analysis for management reporting 
  • Maintain lease and monthly payment schedules 
  • Review fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation 
  • Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
  • Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
  • Adhere to monthly reporting requirements and compliance standards
  • Participate in various department-wide initiatives 
  • Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested

Go Deeper: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:

  • Experience working at a Big 4 Accounting firm
  • Strong organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel 
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is required
  • Extensive experience with journal entries 
  • In-depth experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations 
  • Expertise with implementation of ASC 606 is preferred 
  • Experience with Month End Close, financial reporting and budgeting
  • Experience in a "paperless" environment is preferred 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced business environment; as this role includes various responsibilities from clerical to financial analysis
