Autodesk Research is looking for an Unreal Engine (UE) senior engineer to help in the creation of cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) animation tools. We are looking for someone who thrives on creativity and is willing to collaborate in a research environment on innovative ideas and create solutions that push the capabilities of new technology.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of novel VR animation interaction research
  • Develop scalable and performant code using C++ and UE Blueprints
  • Develop and maintain UE v4 plugins and integrate existing code into UE
  • Collaborate with the project team to determine requirements
  • Integrate Unreal, middleware and core animation capability to enable novel animated content authoring
  • Review user feedback, iterate on interaction models, modify and continuously improve workflows
  • Implement unit tests for code validation
  • Collaborate with developers and senior production supervisors to develop Unreal Engine tools and workflows in C++ and Unreal Blueprints
  • Troubleshoot and resolve emerging issues, challenges and technical constraints
  • Debug and help optimize problematic scenes/shots
  • Provide training and maintain documentation of best practices for creating performant assets, animation and rendering in Unreal
  • Provide technical advice and support for artists

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or similar technical field
  • 5+ years of proven experience with 3D real-time engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity (UE preferred)
  • Proficient in C++ particularly Modern C++ (C++11)
  • Understanding of basic game math fundamentals (vectors, matrices, physics, projections, camera space, tangent space, object space)
  • Working knowledge of source control, including best practices (branching/streams)
  • Ability to work in a research role, start-up fashion even within a big company
  • Ability to work from home / remotely within a structured team environment
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to utilize time allotted efficiently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent collaborator
  • Good communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lighting, modeling, and texturing in Unreal Engine
  • Familiarity with content production workflows for integration in Unreal projects
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to accurately and succinctly communicate information between technical developers, HCI researchers and non-technical artists
  • Experience in games, themed entertainment, visual effects, or a related industry
  • Solid Unreal Engine experience with C++ API, gameplay, rendering, optimization, etc
  • Strong math (linear algebra and geometry) knowledge
  • Experience with VR
  • Experience developing software for Mobile devices, especially Android
  • Git/GitHub knowledge
