Senior Systems Administrator (Government)

AT&T is looking for a systems administration (SA) expert with demonstrable experience in the Windows and/or Linux server design and management field for a challenging large-scale server environment. This SA manages the entire lifecycle (concept/design/development/production/operations/support/disposal) of all servers and desktops for internal and external stakeholders with systems designed and built for specific support and mission functions. The SA works with key stakeholders to develop VM-based (preferred) or traditional Linux and/or Windows server solutions for specific applications and then manages those solutions through their lifecycle to include technology refresh every few years. The SA configures, troubleshoots, and maintains many Linux and/or Windows virtual and traditional servers and a small community of Windows desktop users across multiple domains. The Server SA Identifies server-centric needs, develops/deploys VM or traditional server-centric solutions, documents each system design and job aids for lower tiered support personnel, tests, and patches systems against known vulnerabilities, configures network services and group policies (GPO), manages DHCP and DNS for servers, and continually finds innovative ways around tough problems. The SA must know and utilize industry standard server management practices to verify servers remain patched, stable, and secure while working closely with information systems security personnel to verify patches and security services get applied on time and in accordance with compliance framework security requirements. The SA candidate must be able to work independently, work well with other team members, be willing and able to learn new technologies, and take on increasing levels of responsibility.

The SA shall demonstrate these specific traits and capabilities depending on Windows or Linux skillset:

  • Troubleshoot and analyze Microsoft and/or Linux systems and networks effectively and efficiently
  • Windows 2008 R2 through Windows 2016; installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshoot
  • Active Directory GPO configuration and troubleshooting
  • VMware, ESXi, vCenter; installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshoot
  • Familiarity
    with DNS, DHCP, SQL administration, Exchange, SharePoint, and file
    servers; installation, configuration, administration, and
    troubleshooting
  • Manages daily activities of configuration and operation of Enterprise IT systems
  • Supports
    IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem
    resolution for all the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile
    devices, etc.
  • Problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution in VMware environments and Windows Server environments
  • Supports escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
  • Optimizes system operations and resource utilization, and performs system capacity analysis and planning
  • Provides support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process
  • Provides detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers for escalated tickets
  • Supports design of systems, mission architecture and associated hardware
  • Directs
    and possesses a working knowledge and understanding of system
    administration interdependencies as part of the Service Oriented
    Architecture (SOA)
  • RedHat (RHEL); installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshoot
  • Yum repository builds/management
  • Kickstart builds/management
  • Logical Volume Manager builds/management
  • LDAP/Central Authentication
  • NFS share builds/management
  • VMware data stores builds/management
  • Samba Linux/Windows directory management

  • Patch Cycle Management pref. with regression testing experience
  • Disaster Recovery Technologies planning/management


Additional Information:
Required Skills, Experience, and Education: Ten (10) years' experience in Microsoft Windows and/or Linux Server design and management. Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional system administration experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree. Security+ certification is required.

Required Clearance: Applicant must be a US citizen and have a current TS/SCI security clearance with a polygraph.

Desired: Telecommunications experience; Active Directory Configuration, LDAP, Solarwinds, Yum, Kickstart, NTP, DNS, VMware, Tripwire, MS Exchange, CentOS, Hyperic, Intel/McAfee, NetApp, Centrify, Splunk, SharePoint, Netbackup, OMC, Puppet, and Niagara Files. Certifications to include: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate-Server (MCSA-Serv) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert-Server (MCSE-Serv) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); Linux Professional Institute -Level 1 (LPI-1) or Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or Sun Certified Systems Administrator (SCSA); VMWare Certified Professional (Vsphere 5) (VCP5); Computer Technology Industry Association - Network + (Network +); Computer Technology Industry Association - Storage + (Storage +)
