Site Reliability Engineer (Jira Cloud)
- Sydney, Australia
Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, every Atlassian will have the choice to work from an office or from home.
We are looking for a reliability engineer who is passionate about scaling Cloud services to join our growing Sydney office. An ideal candidate is someone who is eager to learn new things, keeps on top of industry trends (particularly those related to reliability) and loves to share their knowledge with others. Someone who thrives on working with a diverse set of partners, who can articulate the business impact of a problem and can also dive deep into the technical solution.
We'd love it if you brought a deep understanding of modern Cloud infrastructure, programming and operational expertise and a desire to change the status quo. We will support you with a powerful set of internal tools, mature processes and a motivated team with a strong desire to not f*** the customer. We are looking for an engineer who can analyse and help improve our services and processes to get us to an even higher level of availability, scalability, and reliability.
This is an amazing opportunity to join a vibrant team and make huge impact & can offer an open runway for the right person, with room to grow.
More about you
On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
Software development experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, Java.
Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Google Compute or Azure.
Experience operating high-availability, fault-tolerant, scalable, distributed software in production.
Experience in diagnosing and solving user facing service outages.
Experience working with RDBMS, such as Postgres or MySQL.
An ability and desire to mentor and coach engineers.
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with experience developing and instilling a culture of operational maturity.
Solid communication skills with team members near and far.
It would be great, but not mandatory, if you had:
Experience building web-services and clients using REST/GraphQL.
An understanding of observability (monitoring, logging and tracing).
Experience working in a geographically distributed team.
Experience working with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
Awareness and insight into industry trends (technology, methods and tooling).
More about the team
The Jira SRE team support a very large development organisation, across 3 different locations, 3 distinct product offerings and a rapidly growing user base. It's a big challenge. We aim to identify pain-points in reliability and reduce the impact by changing the product, improving the processes, and coaching the developers. We run scalability & tooling projects, respond to alerts & on-call pages, and work with development to define, measure, and exceed SLOs on the features our customers value the most.
More about our benefits
Whether you work in an office or a distributed team, Atlassian is highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some fantastic perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, flexible working options, five paid volunteer days a year for your favourite cause, an annual allowance to support your learning & growth, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and lots more.
