Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Job Description

Atlassian is searching for a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer to join our web marketing team in San Francisco. 

More about our team: 

We architect and support the platform Atlassian uses to author marketing content served on Atlassian web properties (atlassian.com, hipchat.com, bitbucket.org, sourcetreeapp.com, and blogs.atlassian.com). Our websites are the gateway to downloading, purchasing, and logging in to our products, and reliability is a key metric for our team's success. We are a small team of developers, designers, and project managers that interact with other Atlassian teams around the world on a daily basis.

What You'll Do

As a Site Reliability Engineer on our team, you’ll build solutions to enhance availability, performance and stability of Atlassian's web properties as well as automate away repetitive work. You'll also respond to pings, pages and alerts to investigate issues in our web properties that you can really sink your teeth into. You'll be involved in non-production and production environments, data collection, configuration management, as well as disaster recovery planning, capacity engineering, reliability improvement initiatives and platform automation. The best person for this role is someone who has a collaborative spirit - in our world, it’s not about being a hero and having all the answers, it’s about sometimes saying "I don't know" and working on finding solutions rather than starting with an assumption. The team needs someone who can ask questions, learn from others and turn chaos into order.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have: (Required skills)

  • Experience using AWS, especially provisioning EC2 nodes, and setting up CloudFront distributions.
  • Unix/Linux administration
  • Scripting (Bash/Python)
  • Http server configuration (NGNIX/Apache)
  • Configuration management (Terraform/Puppet)

And if you've got some of this, even better! (Preferred skills) 

  • Experience deploying apps using Docker containers
  • Node health monitoring (DataDog or similar)
  • Web traffic analysis with Splunk or similar
  • Continuous deployment using Bamboo, Bitbucket Pipelines, or similar
