You will be working in the Global Business Resilience team, reporting to the Head of Business Resilience, within Governance, Risk, & Compliance. The Resilience team focuses on Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, and Emergency Management. We take a global approach to resilience while working and developing relationships locally.

The Governance, Risk, & Compliance department is a relatively small team with big impact. It is a high visibility group working with Atlassian business and technology teams across the globe. Our responsibilities include risk discovery and assessment, mitigation and controls oversight, compliance oversight, and reporting. Our purpose is to provide methodologies, structures, processes and oversight to allow effective identification, analysis, reporting, and management of risk throughout the environment. We work with virtually every team within the organization - Legal, Security, Marketing, Finance, Customer Support, Field Operations, all product groups, HR, the executive team, etc. We also collaborate with business partners, consultants, and directly with customers.

The Operational Resilience Manager is responsible for the development, maintenance, and execution of business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and plans. This individual will work closely with various departments across the organization to ensure that critical business functions can continue during and after a disaster. The role involves risk assessment, business impact analysis, strategy development, plan development, training, and testing of the plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategy Development: Develop and maintain the organization's business continuity and disaster recovery strategies based on risk assessments and business impact analyses.
  2. Plan Development and Maintenance: Create, maintain and regularly update comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans that address emergency response, backup operations, and post-disaster recovery.
  3. Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats to business operations and prioritize the risks based on their likelihood and impact.
  4. Business Impact Analysis (BIA): Perform BIAs to identify critical business functions and processes and the resources required to support them. Determine the maximum acceptable downtime and the potential impact of disruptions.
  5. Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to ensure that staff at all levels of the organization are aware of the BCP/DR plans and their roles in the event of a disaster.
  6. Testing and Exercises: Plan, coordinate, and execute regular drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of the BCP/DR plans and to identify areas for improvement.
  7. Communication: Establish and maintain communication channels that can be used during a disaster to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  8. Vendor Management: Work with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure they have adequate BCP/DR plans in place that align with the organization's requirements.
  9. Incident Management: Serve as the lead coordinator during incidents that trigger the activation of the BCP/DR plans, ensuring a timely and coordinated response to minimize impact on business operations.
  10. Compliance and Governance: Ensure that the organization's BCP/DR practices comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards. Work closely with the compliance and audit teams to address any deficiencies.
  11. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all BCP/DR activities, including plans, test results, incident logs, and improvement actions.
  12. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update BCP/DR plans and processes to reflect changes in the business environment, lessons learned from tests and actual incidents, and emerging best practices.


Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional certifications in business continuity and disaster recovery, such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and methodologies.
  • Experience conducting business impact analyses and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of IT/Cloud Services disaster recovery processes, data backup methodologies, and emergency response strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive BCP/DR plans.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically, with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to business continuity and disaster recovery.
  • Proficiency in BCP/DR planning software and tools.
