Lead UX Designer - Product Fabric

Job Description

Atlassian is one of the fastest growing software companies in the world, with millions of users across our products (JIRA, HipChat, Confluence, Bitbucket, and now - Trello!). If you live and breathe the user experience, love solving complex problems and are passionate about coaching and mentoring those around you, then we have a great opportunity for you: we're searching for a Lead UX Designer to join our Product Fabric team in Sydney. The team responsible for delivering a consistent, cohesive and collaborative experience across the entire Atlassian product suite.

As a Lead UX Designer in our Product Fabric team, you'll be responsible for ensuring that our users have a great experience with all our products, designing elegant and delightful product experiences, as well as helping to define the vision and roadmap for your product area.

Advocating design in your product team and across the wider design team at Atlassian, you’ll make sure your product design is always as awesome and high-quality as possible, whilst lifting the skills and expertise of those around you.

This is the perfect opportunity for an experienced, driven designer who wants to be a craft leader, rather than a people manager. You'll concentrate on craft and the product at all times and will be fully accountable for the design decisions for the specific projects that you are running and, in partnership with the Design Manager, the quality of overall shipped design.

More about you

On your first day, we'll expect you to have:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as an Interaction Designer, UX Designer or similar, ideally with software or complex web-based applications
  • Ability to apply your design skills in product, interaction, and visual design to help create and build new features
  • A high degree of empathy for the customer experience
  • Experience with conducting and applying customer research, including design thinking, prototyping, and conceptual modelling
  • Ability to define projects and measures of success, test your assumptions and outcomes, and continuously incorporate feedback
  • Interest in collaborating closely with developers, product managers and other team members
  • A genuine passion for mentoring others

More about our team

You’ll be joining a team that is smart and very direct. We challenge each other constantly to improve and ask hard questions. We're dedicated to agile methodology and big believers in 'lean'. We also know all too well the importance of validating assumptions about customers and using various types of testing to prove ourselves right (or wrong). It’s all about improving our user’s experience - no matter who or where they are.

More about the perks

Our offices are open, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some great perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid volunteer days a year for your favourite cause, breakfasts/lunches & snacks provided, ergonomic workstations, 20% work time for your passion projects, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and more.
