Information Experience (Technical Writer) - HipChat
At Atlassian, we look at things differently, and that includes the way we communicate technical information to our customers. Our writers contribute at all stages of development, working with designers and product managers early on to get the right words on screen, and with developers and technical support teams to provide just enough documentation to help teams everywhere deploy, use and get the most out of our products.
We're on the hunt for someone passionate about crafting clear and precise communications who will play a huge role in delivering a great experience for customers as they discover, evaluate, and master our products.
Embedded in a product development team, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the full spectrum of technical writing, from release comms, technical guides and tutorials, right down to micro copy. You’ll use all your writing muscle and have a lot of variety day to day. You'll also have opportunities to test and validate your product’s content and information architecture and find ways to improve it.

This job is for someone who wants to do so much more than traditional software documentation. To communicate the value of complex features in a compelling, clear and effective way in a small amount of product real estate one day, and provide the right amount of guidance for customers to succeed in deploying our products on a wide range of platforms the next.
If you have the following traits, you’ll be a great fit; a knack for creatively engaging with audiences, a need to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent prioritisation skills, an ability to challenge yourself and others, a thirst for technical knowledge, and a love for using that knowledge to help teams everywhere unleash their full potential.
On any given day you can expect to be engaging with product managers, developers and designers, writing micro copy, tutorials and long form documentation, testing and validating content, and designing an information architecture that allows your great content to scale.
On your first day, we expect you to be able to:
- explain the value of complex features in just a handful of words
- communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- guide a user through a complex technical process in clear, accurate steps
- work collaboratively with product managers, developers, and designers
- think creatively about how to test and validate content in a maintainable, scalable way
- work independently and own the documentation requirements of your product
- inventively engage with audiences
