Head of Engineering, Bitbucket
Atlassian helps teams everywhere change the world and we are looking for someone to lead the Bitbucket Cloud engineering team. Bitbucket is the Git solution for professional teams, trusted by over 1 million teams and 6 million users. We are revolutionizing the software industry and helping teams collaborate and craft that magic in delivering their best work. Think NASA launching the Rover on Mars or Cochlear gifting children born deaf with the ability to hear, your work directly impacts the products they use to advance humanity.
The primary focus of your role will be to help grow and scale the engineering and DevOps teams, ensure commitments stay on track, remove any roadblocks, and facilitate fast execution and timely decision-making. In addition, you will manage managers and ensure their growth and success. You will also collaborate across Atlassian to ensure project dependencies and deliveries are handled well.
We would love for you to have experience running highly effective development teams, able to manage both managers and engineers, along with an extensive background in distributed systems and web-scale software. Bitbucket is a "you build it, you run it" service so this role will also have ownership of running the services and managing the DevOps teams. This role will also benefit from a deep understanding of the latest build, test, performance test, deployment, and configuration tools. Bonus points for real-world Agile experience (and the scars to prove it). Traits that will serve you well in this role include being passionate about the customer experience, having the ability to ask the tough questions, and being a natural at working cross-functionally. Your communication skills in writing and public speaking are stellar (and debating ideas with developers and non-tech people is a given).
On your first day, we'll expect you to have:
- 5+ years in engineering management following Agile development processes
- 5+ years experience leading the definition and development of reliable and scalable distributed systems
- 3+ years experience with oversight for operations of a large SaaS service
- Experience as an engineer building large scale distributed systems
- Ability to contribute to the technical and business strategy of the team
- Ability to define the long-term technical vision and strategy for your teams
- Proven experience developing talent
- Proven track record of shipping high-quality software on time
- Experience dealing with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to recommend alternative technical and solution approaches
